So a few days ago FI proposed that the weekend before our wedding we take an overnight (one night) trip to another part of Ohio to relax( about an hour and a half away). He even went ahead booked a romantic hotel and bought tickets to my favorite broadway show that will be in town. I was telling someone about this today and they told me it was a crazy idea because I would have so much to do the weekend before. I would love to hear your experiences the weekend before your weddings! Are we nuts for wanting to do this? Also, we are not doing any DIY and we do have a wedding planner (I don’t know if that makes a difference!). Thanks for your advice!

@MrsDeLovely: Go and have fun! I did nothing wedding related the weekend before my wedding except pick up my dress.

@MrsDeLovely: This sounds like a great idea! I say you should totally do it! 🙂
ETA: If you feel like there’s still a zillion things to do, then maybe best to just power through wedding planning, and rest afterwards. That being said, if everything is in place and you’re just sitting around worrying, then yes, take the break!

@MrsDeLovely: Definitely go for it! My Fiance and I are going to a Tigers game (2 1/2 hours away) 2 days before the wedding! It’s our wedding gift to each other. I can’t wait! Not only am I probably a bigger Tigers fan than him, but I’m looking forward to having a day when I won’t be thinking about the wedding because I’ll be having too much fun.

If you have everything Done, go for it.
But I know for me my Darling Husband tried to plan a party for memorial day (the week before the wedding) and I looked at him like he had 3 heads. I was just too busy.

It depends on how much DIY you’re doing for your wedding. I spent the entire weekend before our wedding getting things finished up if I remember right, but that’s because I had set a deadline for myself to be done by and it was that weekend. If you set yourself a deadline to be done the weekend before your wedding with all of your loose ends then there’s no harm in going out of town.

Do it. We had a DIY wedding and still worked all week, went to a concert Wednesday before the wedding, had the usually rehearsal dinner hoopla (more of an excuse to eat out and spend time with family since we didn’t have a bridal party haha), and got everything done with little stress. Take the weekend off and decompress! It is the most useful thing you can do with your time.

I didn’t have anything to do until literally the day of the wedding.

@burger26: Oh that sounds like so much fun!!! I am hoping that the trip will keep my mind occupied as well!
Thanks for all of your responses…I think we will go ahead and do it!
