I have seen a couple of interesting stories in the news that said basically, SOME studies have shown that women are likely to put on a few pounds after getting married.
I have put on weight since getting married almost a year ago… I’m chalking it up to the stress of combining two households and also that my stress at work has gone through the roof. I’m not making excuses; it is what it is.
But I’m battling this weight — I’ve gone up a whole size in all of my clothes and I’m hating it.
I’m curious to hear from Bees who have already tied the knot. Did you gain weight after getting married? How much, and what do you think caused it to happen?
In case anyone’s interested, here are the links to the stories I was reading.

Yes… I put on about 5-10 pounds. 🙁

So, the day of the wedding I knew I was 5 lbs over. I have since gained another 5 lbs. Darling Husband is officially 12 lbs over his normal weight now, too…. And it’s not even been a whole month since the wedding yet! We plan on eating healthier now. But man, it was nice to have a few weeks to just enjoy eating cake and pizza! lol

I did gain some lbs after my wedding (5-10), but for the wedding I got to a lower weight than I could ever remember being–smaller than I was in high school or college. I’m trying to get back down there by working out every day and eating healthy, but seeing as I got to my wedding weight by working out 1+ hour/day and eating very little, I don’t know if my body even wants to be at that weight again.

I have gained about 8 pounds since the wedding, but I unintentionally lost weight before the wedding and was, IMO, too skinny on my wedding day (BMI of ~17). Now, a year later, I’ve returned to my normal weight, which I’m quite happy with. I wonder if most women who gain wait after the wedding were unusually slim on their big day, due to dieting or stress, and the “gain” is just reverting to the norm, or if it’s more than that?

Heck yeah I gained weight- like 30 pounds!
I am now 20 pounds back down though, in my defence.
I gained about 6 pounds just on the honeymoon!

Yes, I gained weight but I’ve lost it all again.

Mrs. OliveBird, you’re giving me hope. I was too ashamed to admit it in my OP, but I have gained 25 lbs. and in one month it will be our one-year anniversary of being married.
I see you are two years out from your wedding… maybe by this time next year I will have nipped this back in the bud.
I think another reason I’ve put this weight on is because I don’t have complete control of the refrigerator and cupboards anymore. Before Darling Husband and I got married last Christmas, we lived apart from each other and my kitchen was a “single girl” kitchen — no chips, fattening cheeses or sugary things lying around. Everything in my kitchen was super healthy, lean and low fat. When Darling Husband and I moved in together, obviously he wants his favorite foods at home so that includes all the things that tempt me. I have done a lot of snacking this year on things that I *NEVER* had lying around at my old apartment.
With Thanksgiving right around the corner, I cringe to think of gaining another pound. Next week is going to be…. interesting!

No weight gain here. I’ve been the same weight since high school (except when I was pregnant of course).

I actually lost like 5 more pounds, but I wasn’t really trying to.

I voted yes, but I’m blaming the baby weight! 😉

Nope. My weight likes to stay put right where it is +/- 3 lbs and has been that way since high school.

@BelliniChic: I expect to but only because I plan on being a few pounds thinner than usual for my wedding.

nope. my weight hasn’t changed in like 15 years. (since early high school.)

I wasn’t really weighing myself at the time but I think I’m up 10. I blame going back to school though, not getting married (B school = lots of beer). My clothes still fit but I’m trying to buckle down and lose 5-8 lbs
