There’s another thread floating around about this.

It seem to differ between couples!

I called my insurance carrier up about this and I was told that since we already get a multi policy discount with our homeowners and car through them it’s the same you get for getting married.

But then other ladies we had the same insurance carrier as me were able to get a “marriage” discount on top of their multi policy discount! Go figure.

Def worth a call and shopping around to see if others will give you a better rate now.

Mine hasn’t dropped yet, and we’ve been married almost three months. Gah!

@jayelcee85:

Oh no worries! It was just an FYI for you. ๐Ÿ™‚

I don’t think it hurts to ask. ๐Ÿ™‚ If they do give a discount you probably won’t get it till you are married though. I’m assuming.

Ours dropped alot, not because of the marriage, but because my credit is great and his is horrible because of his divorse and the ex passing away.  So there are alot of other factors that influence your rates.  My dads got married a few years ago and their insurance jumped by a ton because my dad is the worst driver on the planet, and two bad drivers on one policy – just not good.

Ours dropped when we got married but I dont know how much. I imagine it will drop again when I turn 25 in September. We have our car insurance through USAA

YES!

Hubby is a few years older than me and didn’t really have any decrease in rates when he hit 25 (he also has a less than perfect driving record…)  But after we got married, and added my car to his insurance plan (full coverage) our monthly bill actually went down like $80 even though we had a second car.

Well at lot of companies have an “engaged couples discount”, which would cause a not-so-significant drop when you do get married. Also depends on your age (cheaper if 25 or over) and if you have younger people on the policy (people under 25 tend to jack up the price because they are a bigger liability). It also depends on the state!

I called the insurance company when I turned 25 and it didn’t really drop at all.  They said it would drop when I turned 29, which it did.  I don’t know if it dropped when we got married.

My company gave me the discount about 6 months before we were married. We had been living together long enough to be considered common law at that point so she just granted it early. I don’t remember it being a huge difference though.

Ours dropped, and we put mine as a leisure vehicle so it’s 40 a month for my car to be insured.
