I’ll be hitting the 3 month mark next week and I feel so bad! I have them half done and finally got some pics from our photographer so that’s my excuse lol.

I read it was 1-3 months? No way it could be 2 weeks! People go on honeymoons for that long sometimes. I feel really bad now lol.

I sent mine out around 2 months.  I waited for some wedding pictures than ordered the cards with our picture.  So that took some time.  Oh and we were on our honeymoon for 2 weeks.  I think you are fine.

Okay I know I slacked on mine and really should have finished them sooner, but

@Christy42213, that’s crazy and sometimes impossible! We went on a 2 week honeymoon, I never could have gotten them done in 2 weeks!

I didn’t consciously ‘wait’ although it took us a good three months to get round to choosing a picture and having it printed. (We were on honeymoon for three weeks, then both went back to full time, demanding jobs). We ended up sending them in stages, and writing a few every eve, which made it feel more manageable.

@Christy42213  I’m curious where you learnt 2 weeks? It sounds much shorter than I believed!

OP, I think you have 2-3 months honestly. Don’t worry.

I did mine after just over a month. I just didn’t want it hanging over me.

A good tip is to keep a list of who gave you what gifts so you can refer to it when writing! 🙂

I did mine 2-3 cards at a time, every couple of days.  I obsess over wording so it takes me a while to do each one.  🙂  I got them out around 2 or so months after the wedding.

All of last year is a blur to me now, I sometimes question whether I actually sent my thank you’s at all. I voted two months, but I think it was a bit less than that. Maybe?

Pretty much immediately. Even before we went on the honeymoon, which was less than 2 weeks after the wedding.

We took far too long. It wasn’t because we waited, but because I wrote them in dribs and drabs and sometimes got really depressed by them.

So personally I think 2 weeks is really unreasonable, we were just coming back from our honeymoon at 2 weeks out and I was NOT going to be writing thank you cards on our honeymoon! Haha. I think the 2 week “rule” applies to gifts recieved before the wedding. Emily Post says 3 months from reciept of the gift on or after the wedding.

I obsessed over wording and put a lot of thought and effort into each one, so it took us what felt like forever, but we had them out in about a month and a half to the ~200 people we invited (our wedding was the day after yours and we sent ours out last week). Honestly, I would not be the least bit offended to recieve a thank you card up to 4-5 months post wedding, esp if it was a bigger wedding.

Everybody don’t hate on me!  I didn’t make the rule! LOL!

With all thank you notes, they’re supposed to be handwritten and go out ASAP.  If it’s not a wedding, it’s supposed to be about 1 week.  For weddings, it’s 2 weeks.  Even people like Oprah and Princess Diana agree on that.

But the “better late than never” principle also applies.  So, I don’t think it’s a huge huge deal and your guests are really upset it took over 14 days to receive a thank you note.

Don’t shoot the messenger!  I’m just passing along what I’ve been taught.

I’ve been married for 3 months and still have not started them. I would have loved to send them already but we want to do a photo card and we have not got our high resolution photos released from the photographer yet. I also got pregnant right after the wedding so that threw a wrench in the thank you card gears so to speak since I’ve pretty much been sleeping the last 3 months haha. I have a detailed spreadsheet of gifts though so I definitely won’t forget what people got me, and plan to to them AS SOON as the photographer gets us some photos. They have been weighing on me and I even decided not to send christmas cards this year because I felt bad about people getting that before their wedding thank you.

@Christy42213 Princess Diana was lucky enough to have her honeymoon on the Royal Yacht Britannia, complete with the ship’s postal service, but I would still be very surprised if she got all her thank you letters for the wedding out before two weeks were up.
