I’ve been told it takes about six months. Six weeks in, I’m good with signing things (receipts at the grocery store, etc.) However I’m still referring to myself with my maiden name when making phone calls. I’m used to seeing my new name-probably because my maiden is now my middle, so looking at e-mails, etc., reinforces it.

I’ve been married for 10 months, and only recently decided NOT to change my last name.  I’ll use it in social situations, but I’m not legally changing my name.  It only took me a couple days to get used to people calling me by my husband’s last name though.

It took probably almost 6 months for it to be habit for me to say my new name rather than my old name. But sometimes (at 18 mo out) it still catches me off guard when someone calls me my new name!

3 months in and unsure about the change.  Have signed a couple documents with a hyphen. His name just doesn’t flow.  It has a “ski” at the end if that helps you imagine what it is.  We’ll see…

I use my maiden name as my middle name now.  I still have trouble when people, IE, my nieces friends call me .. MRS. IRISH PRINCESS … it’s creepy still.

I didn’t vote because I’m 6 months in and still not used to it.

I *like* it but it still sounds funny when people ask for me.

Approaching 2 years and sometimes it still sounds weird when people refer to me by my married name. Especially when my parents introduce me to someone as “CanAmBride NewLastName”, it hits me that I don’t have the same last name as them.

However, the absolute wost is initials!! i just had to initial some paperwork for my bank, and it was reflex to use my old initials. I guess because I use them to rarely, I haven’t trained that part of my brain yet!!

I also still get a strange kick out of seeing mine and DH’s name together on mail. I get a fuzzy feeling seeing things addressed to “Mr and Mrs NewLastname”. Part of me never wants to get 100% used to it because I love that little touch that reminds me that we’re a family and I never want to take that for granted.

I have a feeling it is going to take me a long time! I am going from a very plain Canadian name to a very unplain-hard to pronounce croatian name ended in ‘cic’

I wonder if it will be easier or harder to get used to since it’s very similar to my current last name: same initial and number of syllables. I kind of like that my full name will still have a similar sound to it.

Took about 6 months not to be weird. I still occasionally get weirded out when someone calls me it in public..but that’s just because I’m not used to hearing it!

I’m still kind of getting used to it but after about 6-7 months it was feeling more normal. We are almost at a year and I can honestly say that the new name comes out before the old one when people ask, but every once in a while it strikes me as weird, lol!

It was somewhere around 5-6 months for me to sign my new name correctly consistently. Even at a year + after the wedding, there are still times when I have to correct myself.  But it’s much less frequent than before.
