We got some cash and some checks… but the cash was pretty much only for the lower dollar amounts. Like people who gave us $40 did so in cash, people who gave us $100 did so with a check. I’d think of a plan B.

We got a combination of cash and checks for gifts.  Additionally, we received some Visa and MC gift cards, which can be used just about anywhere.  Good luck!

we recieved cash, checks, gift cards, and gifts. out of 100 cards only 15 were cash in very small amounts such as 10 to 20 dollars, the larger amounts were in the checks and gift cards, and we recieved some very valuable gifts like our artisan kitchen aid stand mixer!!!

We got a combo. I was able to go by the bank the next day and deposit some checks, since we got married on a Friday. If you really need it, thought, you could go ahead and sign the back of the checks that night, fill out the deposit slip, and leave them for a friend/family member to deposit on Monday.

So this is a long round-a-bout way to get it done, but could you have a 3rd party (mom/dad/friend) write you a check? You also write them a check for the same amount, and endorse your wedding gift checks the night you get them so that your 3rd party can deposit them for you right away.

That way, you get cash ASAP for the checks you get on your wedding night, your friend/parent can deposit them all right away on the morning when the bank opens, and then once they deposit into your account, the friend/parent can cash the check that you wrote them and endorsed so they’re back to even again.

*phew- sorry if that didn’t make much sense, but it’s one way to get your checks into the bank and have the $$ to spend on the trip* *ETA- if you can use your cards instead of having to carry cash, then you can just do as the PP said and just endorse them and wait for them to clear into your account*

I’d say we got about 30% cash, 70% checks.  The day after the wedding, we went to the bank on our way to the airport and deposited it all.  It only took a couple days to all be in our account, so it really wasn’t a huge deal.  Plus we got some money before the wedding through our honeymoon registry, so we were fine there.

We probably got like 95% checks, 5% cash. And if you’re changing your name, you’ll want to make sure to deposit the checks with your maiden name on it before you change it.
