@GreenEyedMoon:  Oh, yay! I’m*SO*o glad you got to tell everyone about the fertility rat, the knotted rope, and the third-birthday book!

(Glad to know more of the backstory, too… that’s hysterical!)

Just Monday we received a package from my aunt, I had assumed it was a quilt because she makes insanely beautiful quilts and had mentioned she was making us something, well we open it up and it’s a custom made, hand painted lazy susan. It’s so random that I can’t help but love it, but what on earth do you do with an ornately decorated lazy susan?!?!?

Now we can’t decide if that or the “wedding bowl” is the weirder gift!?!? Speaking of the wedding bowl, what on earth is a wedding bowl and what do you use it for?!?!

@WillyNilly:  Okay, that is an awesome Elvis clock!

I also received a handpainted serving set from my former boss that she bought in Italy. She sent home some really awesome plates, dishes, etc and told me one was my wedding gift so I was super excited. Instead I got this tray with a bunch of different smaller dishes (for dips? different veggies? I don’t know…) that we will probably never use because I am the least social person in the universe and barely ever attend parties and will likely never host one, and there are so many breakable pieces that it makes bringing it anywhere IMPOSSIBLE.

And another former coworker gave me an ovenmitt that was barely lined but had a big, ugly fake diamond on the ring “finger”. I am not a girly girl at all, and we already have a very nice oven mitt that will actually protect my hand when pulling hot items out of our oven. She gave another coworker a bunch of things she “regifted” from her wedding so I have a feeling my oven mitt was one as well.

Okay, its official, Weddingbee Wacky Gift Yankee Swap 2012 MUST happen!!

I still have a few weeks for the strange gifts to pour in, but we did get a very preachy Jesus wedding card in the mail the other day with a Wal Mart gift card in it, addressed only to Fiance, I’m guessing in protest of us living together before marriage?

(we’re both athiests)

(we live in the city, there is not a Wal Mart anywhere near us)

(still a nice thought though…hehe)

My FI’s uncle gave us a very grusome looking 2 foot crucifix that he had blessed for us.  It was very awkward because he is a catholic priest and we chose not to get married in the Catholic church (because we are not catholic).  I have no idea what to do with it.. it is terrifying!!  But at the same time its not exactly something we can throw away..

Dh and I received an electric toothbrush. First off when we opened it we had NO clue who it was from. Then my sister-inlaw said she got the same toothbrush when she got married from  DH’s aunt. It’s actually a really nice Oral-B toothbrush that we use. We just weren’t expecting it as a wedding gift.

Wow, these are some very interesting gifts! We just had our wedding on Sunday and received an ETTIQUETTE Book as a gift!!! No card was attached and the book smelled musty like it had been sitting in a basement. Were they trying to tell us something?!? Everyone I spoke with that came to the wedding said they had the best time and was one of the best weddings they had ever been to… Apparently this person did not READ the Ettiquette book because they did not leave a card with it! haha

Darling Husband wanted cash, and was afraid that if we had a registry, people wouldn’t give cash.  I said we should have a small registry just so people who don’t want to give cash won’t give us a bunch of hideous candlesticks.  So my bridesmaid and her mom went nuts at Michael’s and crafted the tackiest candlestick holder you’ve ever seen.  She even gave me a used, melted candle!  She is a phenomenal gift giver, and gave me some very nice gifts, but her specialty is joke presents.  It now has a place of honor on our entertainment center 🙂  It’s the only candle holder we received!

The most unique actual gift we received is a “forgiveness glass.”  When we argue, one person is supposed to give the glass to the other.  If the other accepts it and takes a sip, that is a symbol of forgiveness.  It came with a note hoping we wouldn’t use it very often.  The couple who gave it to us said they’d received something similar at their wedding.

One of my co-workers got a huge, I mean HUGE, painting of Jesus at his wedding. He said he is regifting it to me at my wedding. But really tho…what do you do with a huge painting of Jesus?? Throwing it away seems so….wrong.

I just thought of another gift which wasn’t bad per se but it was weird to give as a wedding gift.  We have a friend who makes gorgeous items out of wood.  Anything as small as a pen to as large as a gazebo.  He’s made beautiful small things for us in the past which he gave us as gifts which we both loved.  After the wedding he told us he was sorry he still had not given us a gift and that he was working hard on it.  DH and I both assumed it was something he was making out of wood and got really excited about what it could be.  Sometime later he presented us with the gift: a photobook of photos from DH’s bachelor party.  um….yeah.  DH didn’t have stripers or anything questionable at his bachelor party but it was still just a photo book of Darling Husband hanging out with his friends.  We both thought it was so odd to give that as a wedding present.

Gift card to Applebees.  It’s an inside joke between Darling Husband and his friend–because Darling Husband hates corporate chain restaurants with a passion.  LOL, we ate 2 decent meals there.
