I was reveiwing the guest list with my parents, and they kept telling me to expect a lot of declines, over-invite, and not get my hopes up because the wedding is December 28. Since it’s so close to Christmas, they expect that will deter people from coming. Can anyone who had a wedding close to Christmas let me know if they ran into this problem? Did a lot of people decline? How many people did you invite versus how many people ended up coming to the wedding?

Actually one of my cousin’s had a wedding the weekend before Christmas, and one of my Uncle’s got married the weekend after Christmas. Both of them had a lot of guests decline, but it was partially because a lot of the guests for each wedding would have had to travel. The wedding that happened after Christmas had fewer declines than the wedding before Christmas though. It also depends on what the weather is like as to how many no-shows you could get. I think your parents are right though, I would expect a lot of declines from guests who aren’t as close to you, since they could be going away or plan to spend the holidays with their immediate family instead of coming to the wedding.
