Yes. When I use pieces I got for my first wedding (2005), I think of the person/people who gave them to us. I do the same with the stuff from this time around, but it’s much fresher in my mind!

We wrote all this down for thank you note purposes, and we’ve kept it.  I know people are going to say it’s “tacky” but it comes in handy when deciding what is appropriate to give other people.

Yes, I do!  I remember gifts from my first wedding, even, oh so many years ago, lol.  I never forget a unique gift.

Vaguely for the first year or two and then I forgot all but the ice cream bowls because they came from a friend of mine that I have known for over 20 years.

Actually, I married over thirty years ago and I do remember the person connected to the item when I use it.  Mrs. G gave me a place setting, the S’s gave me a silver compote, and so forth.  I make a connection like that with most things, but I’m not sure if it’s the same for everyone.

Give an experience gift if you know them well enough.  A couple’s massage, a night (or two) in a hotel, etc…  But I prefer experience gifts to random crap sitting around my house and since I have moved so much b/c of work and crappy leases I have little attachment to stuff and everytime I move I get rid of more stuff.

I did write down what each person got for us.  However, I only “remember” a few certain item.  Whenever I or Darling Husband use the George Foreman grill, we think of the giver of that gift.  Same goes with the coffee pot, etc etc.

I wouldn’t be able to easilly recall what amount of cash someone gave to us.  That’s why I have it written down, just in case I’ll ever need to know that…

I definitely remember who gave what and think of the giver whenever I use the gift. My parents gave us our every day dishes, so there’s that. One of my besties gave us a drink dispenser which gets used every time we entertain. His Aunt and Uncle gave us the most awesome salt and pepper grinders ever, and I say a little thanks every day for them (the family and the grinders!). I could go on, but I’ll stop. 🙂

Some of them I do, but most of them I don’t.

Well I remember, but it was only a few weeks ago and we didn’t register, so we received mostly cash gifts and only a handful (less than 10) actual “things”.

By far my favourite was this beautiful memory box/chest.  It’s made of some gorgeous dark wood and has a small metal plate thing on top with,

engraved on it.  The inside has compartments and that’s where we’re keeping our extra wedding invites, all my papers involved in the planning process, all our wedding cards, and my wedding jewelry.  It locks, but we don’t need to lock it.  It’s just so gorgeous and also totally functional.  And it has our names on it – I love it!

@oracle- hmmm yeah, I think I do for the most part.  I mean, if I’m using a towel, I don’t consciously think of the person… but if you asked me who got it I’d probably be able to tell you.  Then again, we got the towels as a set.

On the other hand, we got 12 settings of china and 8 crystal wine glasses.  I can think of two people who gave us crystal and maybe 4 or 5 who gave us the china, otherwise I’d have to look at the list.

I don’t remember many of the registry gifts. What I do remember is a beautiful, handmade ceramic bowl (a huge bowl for serving salad to a crowd) and a gorgeous cranberry colored vase, and every time I look at either of those gifts I think fondly of the people who gave them to us.

My mom remembers all her gifts – she’s always been able to tell me that this bowl set was from Mrs. ABC or that roasting pan from Family XYZ. I’ve always assumes that I would be the same in remembering it. And if that alone doesn’t do the trick, I have all those spreadsheets about gifts received and thank-you-notes sent to remind me. 😉
