    It's fine. It's just a fun, upbeat song. It doesn't matter what the lyrics are about or saying. : (27 votes)

    Well I thought it was before... but I didn't really listen to the lyrics before. Now it's not! : (2 votes)

    It's popular because it's chipper sounding and a guy is singing "I think I want to marry you." : (45 votes)

    I only heard it for that obnoxious video proposal that guy did that is on youtube.

    I agree, horrible song for a wedding. Can’t believe people would actually use that.

    At first I thought you were talking about the song ‘marry me’ by Train(which we played as the last song at our wedding). But then read the lyrics and realized tottally different song. I voted because of the upbeat lyrics and him saying he wants to marry you.

    getting trashed & tying the knot in Vegas is awesomely fun! Right? I guess it’s a more ‘fun’ song about marriage. Rather than the usual soppy slow crap, which are also unfortunately really popular at weddings

    I always assumed it was inspired by Britney Spears.

    No, I don’t get why it is so popular but I find Bruno Mars annoying anyway.

    @chelles07:  Haha, me too.

    Never heard this song before, tbh, but I think people are just hearing a poppy/upbeat song and the words “marry you” and assuming it’s all good. It’s like that “Pumped Up Kicks” song. If you listen to the words, it’s about a kid who’s going to shoot up his school.

    @vorpalette:  And yet, I still love Pumped Up Kicks.  I felt really guilty that it was on my “Wake Up” playlist at an extremely bad time this summer and came on right when I’d loaded up a car full of people.  Everyone stared daggers at me.

    But for similar reasons, we played “Marry Me” at the wedding; I had heard it a million times and knew what the lyrics were, but I loved the song anyway and it was on my wedding preparation playlist.  It was upbeat and I chose to only sing the “I think I want to marry you,” parts.  By the time we picked songs to play for the wedding, it was stuck in my head and I was like, yep, put it on the list, makes me think of my husband-to-be.

    Though, we also had Cake’s “Love You Madly” on the playlist for the same reason (makes me think of him and get that goofy thinking-of-him smile) and that has lyrics that say “I don’t want to worry whether we’re going to stay together ’til we die.”  Maybe we’re just doomed.

    …who said all songs at weddings have to be about love and weddings? People also like to play Forget You and anything by Rhianna or Chris Brown who are obviously not good relationship role models, it’s just about what will get people dancing and what music the couple enjoys. If every song had to be positive about love, I don’t think I’d have much playing at my wedding and I don’t think anybody would dance, LOL

    Plus…the song’s just funny, people take things too seriously, I think it’s hilarious.

    I think that the song is cute for lazying around the house daydreaming and bruno mars is hella-cute but I wouldn’t play it at my reception….unless I could edit it to only use the chorus and the part that says “Just say I DO-oo-oo-ooo…Tell me right now baby!” and then edit out the rest of the song…
