Hello my fellow weddingbee-ers!
I’m finally marrying my Englishman and we’re moving to London in November 2010. As most of you know, the process of getting a visa is a very long and extrememly heavy on the admin.
I wanted to know if anyone out there has been through the UK spouse visa process and could give me some pointers. I have been rejected a UK Visa in the past (Highly Skilled Workers Scheme) so I am slightly worried the my visa processing will take longer than ususal. My main concern is that the visa won’t be ready by the holidays, and I’d hate to spend that time apart from my new husband.
Should we get a lawyer that specializes in immigration???
I’d love to hear your thoughts/advice!!!

I did this process to move from Dallas to Manchester to join my British hubby. It was actually a surprisingly easy process for us. We married in Texas on Jan. 2nd and after a few weeks my husband returned to Manchester while I finished clearing out my apartment and tying up loose ends. We actually didn’t submit our application until after the wedding. From submission to approval was just under a month.
I believe it helped greatly that we were already married at the time of submission. I even directed our processor to the Sneak Peak slideshow of wedding pics that our photographer put together right after the wedding. I thought it would be a much slower process and considered using one of those companies that helps you apply, but was shocked at how smoothly it went for us. I didn’t have to do an interview or anything else.
If you have any questions, feel free to PM me!
Good luck and congrats 🙂

I would not hire a lawyer! I did it all myself and the only pain in the butt part is all the paperwork and waiting. If you go on the visa site you can print off a copy of the application-I suggest filling this out first before you go to apply online. It will give you a list of documentation and my best advice is to just bombard them with exactly what they want. For instance, I provided 10 pages of email records to prove how long we have known each other. Make sure you get the OFFICIAL uk visa site, the others just want to take your money (even though the Brits will anyways lol) I suggest applying ASAP because it can take awhile but mine only took about 3 weeks and a nice woman called to ask when I would like it to start so that I didnt miss out on any months of my visa. Now, I married before I moved, which I think is easier. Send them anything you can think of that proves your relationship is real-emails, love letters, pictures of you together. Good luck and if you need help just msg me!
