Apples and oranges. I certainly hope the relationship with a H is as intimate, open, supportive, loving, and close as possible. It is, of course,  a totally different type of relationship than a close female friend. H is my best friend, and the most important person in my life along with my children. I have a few “best” girlfriends from  childhood, whom I cherish.  My mother and my grandmother are my best friends. So are a couple of my close local friends.

IMO this debate is nothing more than a silly word game. It  reminds me of elementary school children arguing, “Whose your best friend?” Haven’t we moved past that at this age?

I know a lot of people say they are marrying their best friend, but I can’t relate either. I associate the best friend concept with a temporary status for kids or teenagers. Darling Husband is my life partner, which is a way stronger and longer lasting status than best friend.

mfox89:  Fiance and I have known each other for like 8 years before we became best friends and finally, a year later, we walked into love. I have a couple girls that I would consider them as best friends as well, but Fiance surpasses them all. He is my #1 best friend.
