I find Mary Kay to be very drying. I also dont like the smell.

I prefer Mary Kay from a skincare standpoint, however, I am not a huge fan of their makeup.  I love MAC and Bare Minerals for makeup.  They offer a lot more variety in terms of colors and different types of products for differen’t skin types.  I don’t think Mary Kay offers very many options in terms of colors.   Their skincare lines are fabulous.  Sometimes it doesn’t matter how good a makeup is if you aren’t taking care of your skin properly it won’t matter!

@leecy87:  I think MAC is good for makeup but I wouldnt consider them great for skin care. I am AA. However, I have never tried Mary Kay.

I’m African American and I hate just about everything MaryKay and MAC breaks me out like nothing I’ve ever seen. So I would say neither 🙁

I did one of those free Mary Kay wedding things too, Mary Kay is okay, however I will tell you that after I started using the Mary Kay products for normal skin my skin got extremely dry and I had to stop using the products.  I bought the cleanser, the refresher, the mask and the facial cream.  They are now sitting on my dresser.

Also, they will try to get you to buy their products at the free event.

I’ve been invited to these types of things many times. All the times I’ve gone, I have been pressured to buy something that I don’t want. Sure, some people love Mary Kay but I think you should just stick with what you know and trust.

If I had to choose between those two brands I would say MAC. HOWEVER, I pretty much exclusively use urban decay and I like NARS products as well although some of those can be a bit expensive but no more than MAC. I would suggest you go to Sephora, they have independent stores in most malls and they also are in JcPenny’s. I find sephora has very talented employees and they can help you find other options outside of MAC or MK.  HTH.

I wouldn’t use either they both test on animals and not just rats, but kittens. puppies, and rabbits. I use Luminess Air for my foundation and Bare Minerals for everything else. They are natural and 100% cruelty free.

Although I’m Caucasian I I thought I’d offer my opinion! I solely use Mary Kay makeup. I can’t justify spending huge amounts of money on my makeup but I also don’t want to use drugstore brands. I also have very sensitive skin in regards to exzema, dermatitis and acne and Mary Kay is the first product I’ve used makeup wise that doesn’t irritate my skin. As far as skin care I use  a brand called eminence which is a more expensive organic product line.

as far as going to the parties,  I’ve been to many and its fun to try colours and products out before you buy them. They also have a great return policy if you decide you don’t like a product (assuming you haven’t used half the bottle and then decided you don’t like it) I’ve never felt forced or pressured to buy anything.

@mrsrigsby60:  I am an animal advocate and will not use products tested on animals. Mary Kay does not test on animals. If you look on their website there is quite an extensive writeup about their views on animal testing. They do make it clear that they can’t control what others do with their makeup/products  but the company is not involved in animal testing.
