Agreeing with a prior opinion of the Maryland Attorney General, Maryland’s highest court has now held that same-sex marriages performed elsewhere (including ours) are valid in Maryland. (Ironically, this occurred in the context of a same-sex divorce.) While the recently passed legislation permitting same-sex marriage IN Maryland will almost certainly be the target of a referendum to repeal it, the outcome of the referendum will not affect the recognition of same-sex marriages performed elsewhere.
I still hope the referendum fails. But it’s nice to know that the validity of our own marriage is not in question.
