Both? I think they are a fad and overdone but I think they are very pretty when done right!

Let me put it this way, I’ve never been to a wedding that used mason jars. We see them all of the time on the Bee and on Pinterest, but in real life, they are not used that extensively. I think they are a fad, but they are also fab!

They’re definitely overdone, but I’m still in love with them. I’m similar to you in that some of my favorite childhood memories involve mason jars. I’m from a very small, farm town and my fiance is from the city. His guests might not get it, but he loves it as much as I do and that’s all that matters. We might miss the mark by three years, but we have no control over when we get engaged. I say go for it!

We are using mason jars as our centerpieces. We have four different sizes that we are grouping up and putting them all the way down the center of the tables. Some will have lights in them, some corks, some rocks, and some will be empty. The biggest jars will hold our flowers. Some of the jars will be on bark stumps. Very simple, but rustic.

TheAnonyMouse: I grew up with mason jars used for everything- vases, containers for craft materials, storage for dry goods, cotton balls, extra bars of soap in the bathroom lol. I currently have my make-up brushes in painted mason jars on my vanity and a few as vases around my apartment. I also use them to store my green smoothies. I totally think they are only a fad for people who only learned about their many uses on pinterest and the like. I have seen tons of mason jars in weddings on pinterest but not a single one in a wedding in real life.

I say if you like them, use them!

I’m from Georgia, in a suburb of Atlanta where people like to act a whole lot more country than they really are. All the weddings I’ve been to recently involve mason jars all over the damn place. I’m tired of seeing them at these weddins where it doesn’t fit the couples personality, only the trend on Pinterest.

In your case, I think it would be perfect. It seems to fit you and has special meaning to you!

TheAnonyMouse: If you use them on a regular basis then I say practicality. That is what it is for us. Why would I go by a whole bunch of vases when I have cabinets full of jars and cans.

I think mason jars are a fad, but as far as fads go, it’s pretty fab, lol. I really like seeing them used in centerpieces or for serving a signature drink.

When used uniquely, fab. When used in a stereotypical, cookie-cutter way, fad and overdone.
