I can tell you as a former massage therapist that she’s probably not going to give the slightest thought to you being a friend/ acquaintance. Everyone just turned in to a default body to work on. It’s very clinical. Don’t worry about it at all 🙂 if you’d like to relax and stay quiet, just let her know.

I work at a football club and part of my job is sports massage. Most of the guys I only met through work, but there are two guys there who I was friends with before I started work there. One is REALLY weird about it and won’t let me anywhere near him (I think his Girlfriend might have something to do with this) but I’ve given massages to the other friend and it’s strictly professional. You’re just trying to find sore muscles and work on them so you’re concentrating pretty much the whole time.

Also, I tend to go with what the patient wants, so if they don’t appear comfortable having a chat then I’ll keep quiet. Your massage therapist should (hopefully) go about it the same way.

I agree, since it’s their job they’ll just go into default work mode and not think much of it. But I think if you’re uncomfortable, depending on how close you are to them, feel free to mention it to them.
