This is a kind of silly question & poll but I am curious on people’s opinions.
Background: My SO got me a 60 min massage gift certificate for my Birthday. It’s for a local health & fitness club where his best friend’s wife is a massage therapist. I know her from church and from lunches and dinners over the past year with my SO and she’s a wonderful person who I feel comfortable around socially.
Seeing as my SO got the certificate for where she worked I felt somewhat obligated to get a message with her. I worried if I didn’t it might be perceived as rude, but then I worried…well will it be weird to get a massage from someone I know? She’s a professional, I have no doubt about that but I just started thinking will she want to chat while massaging me? How do I go about tipping her? I feel like a standard 20% tip should still be given – though I’m not sure how much the massage cost, but I estimate they’re typically ~$1/min.Their website gives no pricing information, I could always call again to ask.
When I called I had a day and time in mind and figured if she wasn’t available then that would be it, but she was available so I am booked with her. I’m sure it will be great and I am looking forward to my first ever hour long massage! I can usually never justify spending that much on myself. But what are everyone’s thoughts?
