- Wedding: November 2012
Several weeks ago, I ordered 16 antique Atlas EZ-Seal mason jar from a bride for $2 a piece! What an amazing deal! I couldn’t believe my luck. Especially since I’m on such a tight budget for our November wedding. I also bought a cake serving set as well.
After the purchase I anxiously awaited my packages arrival. After going out with my FH, as walking through the front door I noticed a empty box sitting on the porch. Well, since we are still in the process of unpacking from moving into our house that we just BOUGHT (YAY!), I thought it was just a box my FH had unpacked and thrown outside. So I questioned him about it, and he said he had never seen that box before in his life.
I start to inspect the box and notice its addressed to me as well as from the person I bought the jars and cake serving set. But the box is EMPTY! So I panic.. of course always my best reaction to anything. I go over to my neighbors to see if they may have given them the contents of my box of if maybe it had been stolen. But seriously… who steals the contents of a box and not take the box?!
My neighbor reccommends that I call the Post Office because it was sent via United states postal services (usps). So I call, and the man is completely baffled that there is no notice or anything about my box being empty. After several calls, I report more about the box, such as a stamp saying it was recieved to my hometown unsealed and damaged.
I contacted the seller and shes devistated because she didnt BUY INSURANCE! She said the postal worker claimed insurance was useless unless you were going to pack it according to their standards. After filing a report with he post office, I get a call from the local person thats been set to take charge of my file. She says ” well since it didnt have insurance theres nothing we can do..” and tries to hang up!
Well… im stubborn and I dont just lay down to be run over, so I question whether I get my shipping back since it shouldnt matter whether I had insurance or not, my contents of my box was taken. Someone opened my box! the tape was cut! not to mention that my second box of mason jars was crushed.. only 3 of 6 survived. So now im screwed out of all the shipping and had to pray and hope the seller would refund some of my money.
Seller is a wonderful person and refunded the money. What upsets me, is that its a federal offense for someone to open another persons mail. And nothings being done. I had to complain and ask if there was anyway they could look for it, I now have to go to the PO and fill out a form. Either way, they are making it extremely complicated.
Lesson Learned: DO NOT SHIP THRU POST OFFICE. DO NOT SHIP WITHOUT INSURANCE. AND IF I WERE YOU, I WOULDNT BUY MASON JARS TO BE SHIPPED. Sorry girls who are trying to sell and ship, but its just not worth it. That box was opened and my other one was crushed and kicked. I lost $ on shipping as well as a wonderful deal on the mason jars that i will never get again. I have looked trust me, so no more mason jar ideas for me. Just looking around at local antique shops and flea markets.
