I don’t think it is bad at all to request a certain color shoes.  I requested gold for my wedding and have been requested to wear black and strapy for one wedding I was a Bridesmaid or Best Man in and white for the other wedding I was a Bridesmaid or Best Man in.

Gold and Bronze are so close – if I were you, I’d find some fabric swatches in the metallic color you like and give those to your girls as a guide. Honestly, if they don’t like the color, they can buy shoes, wear them for one day, and sell them on craig’s list or ebay.

i think this is perfectly fine.  i think the rule of thumb is- if you request a certain color, that’s acceptable, but if you want a specific SHOE (i.e. only the steve madden blah blah), then you should front the money.  you are safe this way!

It’s not bad to ask them to wear the same color. Most weddings I’ve been in I’ve had to buy a specific shoe.

I’ve asked my BMs to just wear metallic flats (any color) on the beach for the ceremony and nude pumps for the pictures/reception.

I’m all for people picking their own shoe, but if you have 3 in gold and 1 in bronze, it’ll look like she’s the odd duck out.
