pretty much all individual plans have waiting periods for maternity insurance. i’m surprised that your husband’s insurance would be more expensive than your individual policy, unless he has an individual policy too? employer-sponsored programs are usually more affordable. i wouldn’t worry too much about this. you’re not planning on ttc, so take your bc and if you’re really worried use condoms. if you’re careful, the chances of a surprise pregnancy are pretty low. but you should definitely add the rider in august if you plan on sticking with your policy so that you can ttc in 2 years.

I’m surprised your husband’s would be that much more, too. Generally, employer-based plans are much cheaper. (Or at least I thought so!) Does your husband work for a small company? I hope you can figure something out. Good luck!!

Sorry you’ll have to pay more. 🙁

My husband just came home a few minutes ago and informed me that our health insurance (through his company) is going up 40% soon. 🙁   My company also sent out an email a few weeks ago stating premiums could go up as much as 50%.  It seems as if many companies are going to jack up the rates. Argh!

Well, at least you won’t have the waiting period!! 🙂
