Just wondering about this subject. Bees on here know by now about DH and I TTC and stuff. Well i work as a Secretary at a College. When staff/faculty have their babies the mommy is given 6 to 8 weeks maternity leave FROM our work BUT we can take as much time as we have saved up (vacation & sick time acrewed).
My question to you mommies and mommies-to-be is:
What is your job?
How much time are you given for Maternity Leave?
How much are you actually taking off?
Are you going to go back to work or not?
Also does you SO, Fiance, DH get any kidn of leave from his job?
My DH is a FireMedic and he gets 2 weeks off.

I am a retail buyer/manager.
We are given 6 weeks paid for vaginal delivery, a bit more if there is a c-section. We can use up to 12 weeks with the difference being unpaid as per FMLA. The way it works is that you must use all of your accrued benefit time first, then the clock starts on maternity leave.
DH gets 1 week of paid paternity leave, he can also use vacation time at that time.
I’m not sure yet whether I will be returning to work after 3 months, I think I would really be much happier with a year or two and since we can live on DHs salary and it’ll be pretty easy for me to return to my field whenever I’m ready, staying home for some period of time is definitely an option.

Yeah I am going to try my hardest to stay at work and not be out for the little aches and pains during that nine months because I do not know if when i go on maternity leave if I am going to want to come back lol. Although we are not pregnant yet (hopefully soon) I was trying to see how different women do maternity leave.

What is your job? Project Manager for an engineering firm
How much time are you given for Maternity Leave? I didn’t have an actual paid maternity leave, I used our short term disability insurance and got 4 weeks at 65% of my regular pay
How much are you actually taking off? I had to take 2 weeks of my own time before the disability kicked in, so I took a total of 6 weeks.
Are you going to go back to work or not? Yep, I came back right at 6 weeks
Also does you SO, Fiance, DH get any kind of leave from his job? My DH is a teacher and only got a week off and he had to use vacation time.

What is your job? Federal employee– research analyst
How much time are you given for Maternity Leave? Zero. I’m allowed 12 weeks of sick/annual/LWOP, but only 6 of the weeks may be sick leave.
How much are you actually taking off? At least 12 weeks over a 20 week period.
Are you going to go back to work or not? Yep. We need the income.
Also does you SO, Fiance, DH get any kidn of leave from his job? Yes. 2 weeks paternity, plus any PTO, then LWOP for a total of 12 weeks max.
My plan is to take 6-8 weeks, then go part time for 12 more weeks. DH will take the first two weeks, then part time opposite from me

job: accounts receivable clerk
how much time am I given: 6 weeks short term disability for vaginal delivery, 8 weeks for c section,
How much am i actually taking off: I am taking in total 4 months leave. After my short term disability is paid, we will only have DHs income to live off of.
Am I going back to work or not: yes. Could we live off of just DHs income, sure but we like to vacation, go out to dinner, we want to save for a house, so I will be returning to work. I love my job.
Does DH get any time off: he only gets a week off from work plus any PTO. However with his job, he might take an extra week off the following month. When he is out there is no one to cover for him or take over his work, and he cant get backed up due to court dates and deadlines. He might try to work from home a few days a week while im home

What is your job? I work in Sales
How much time are you given for Maternity Leave? 12 months (I live in Toronto, Canada)
How much are you actually taking off? 12 months
Are you going to go back to work or not? Yes, we’ve signed up for daycare so we should hopefully be all set when it’s time to head back. The wait to get in is approx. 18 months so we’ll be cutting it close!
Also does you SO, Fiance, DH get any kidn of leave from his job? no but DH is self employed so he’ll be cutting back for the first couple of weeks when baby comes home

How much time are you given for Maternity Leave? 12wks (5 paid by employer, rest is PTO or unpaid)
How much are you actually taking off?12 wks
(our daycare is one that doesn’t start until 12weeks but id take the full 12wk anyway)
Are you going to go back to work or not? Yes, full time
Also does you SO, Fiance, DH get any kind of leave from his job? DH is in IT and will take two weeks of vacation time

I’m 16+6wks and have missed two days for severe vomiting but that’s it. I have a desk job and would have had to take more if I had a more active job. I’m trying to limit random PTO days to save up PTO for baby!
our wait here at the center we chose in the U.S. Is 12mo so you have to apply immediately when you find out you are pregnant bc we only take 12wks leave!

What is your job? Cat herder (emergency management)
How much time are you given for Maternity Leave? Government Mat leave – 50 weeks paid at max EI amount (not a whole heck of a lot.) 2 weeks unpaid waiting period. Work leave – pays me to 80% of my regular gross for the 2 weeks unpaid by EI, then 15 weeks topped up to 80% of gross. Then 10 weeks at 75% at gross, the rest is 0 top up.
How much are you actually taking off? 11 months, plus 3 weeks vacation, so nearly a year.
Are you going to go back to work or not? Yes, I will be going back. I love my job and I have career goals I want to achieve. And honestly, neither of us are willing to take the hit to our lifestyles to lose either income (we both make within a few thousand of each other.) We are not willing to make the sacrifices required to have one of us stay at home. Forget that I would be a terrible Stay-At-Home Mom.
Also does you SO, Fiance, DH get any kidn of leave from his job? We can split the parental leave portion from the government. He is taking 1 month of it. He doesn’t get any top up from his employer, nor does he get any additional leave. He’ll take vacation when the baby is born.

We thought we were ahead of the game but we live downtown and it looks like all of the daycares we were interested in had a long wait list! As it is we may have a month or two between when I go back and when baby gets in but luckily have someone who can help for the meantime if need be.

I am an office/billing manager for an optometrist. I was allowed 8 weeks but they told me that I can take as much as I wanted… I took 14 weeks. All unpaid.
DH was off for 4 weeks, but he swung it so that he only had to use like A week if vacation. He was paid for all 4 weeks.

What is your job? Account Director for a Marketing firm
How much time are you given for Maternity Leave? I’m in Canada, so 12 months. EI covers 55% up to a maximum salary of $42K so I’m getting about 25% of my salary for the time I’m off. DH and I have saved up accordingly.
How much are you actually taking off? The plan is to take the full 12 months, but I may go back sooner, depending on a few factors.
Are you going to go back to work or not? Yes
Also does you SO, Fiance, DH get any kind of leave from his job? He gets five paid days off, and with the way his shifts work that will work out to almost 2 weeks off, which will be nice.

University lecturer/part-time adminstrator
8 weeks paid and up to 4 more unpaid
It depends – if baby comes on schedule in mid-October, I’ll take the 8 weeks paid, and then “go back to work,” with the understanding that things are slow from mid-Dec. to mid-Jan and I can work from home/take the baby into the office. If s/he comes earlier, I’ll take more – basically, I will try to avoid having to start working again before the end of the fall semester.
Definitely going back to work, although I wish desperately I could take 6 months off rather than 2-3.
DH gets 2 weeks paid, which I know is rare.
