Hi…just wanted to get you guys’ opinion. I am wearing a matte organza gown and I initially wanted my bridesmaids to wear satin taupe dresses. I think the color is flattering and the shine of satin photographs well. When I went with one of my bridesmaids to try on bridesmaid dresses, I was advised against picking shiny dresses for my bridesmaids because mine isnt. Saleslady said the bridesmaids’ dressses should never be shinier than the brides. I have never heard of this rule, but she says that in regular pics that guests will take with their camera, the shiny dresses will pop out more. Then again, I cant find any matte bridesmaids dresses in the same shade of taupe I like…and I kind of think it will all just look dull without a contrast? What do you guys think? Help!

do whatever you want. That’s my answer to most things.

I thnk that the bridesmaids dresses would have to have be made of neon lights to take attention away from the bride.
I’ve never heard of that either–and besides, for one, I wonder if your photographer could retouch the photo if it bothered you (although I bet that it’s one of those things that’d never occur to you if she hadn’t mentioned it) and second, you won’t be with your BMs in every single shot.

I agree that if they bridesmaid dresses are shinier then yours they do stand out more in photographs. This is something I always notice but maybe I just focus too much on little details. But some people dont care about this rule, in the end you have to do what makes you happy rather than just following a rule for the sake of it

I think the big white dress will stand out more than some shiny bridesmaids dresses. Get what you like! Everyone is going to have a random rule for everything, it’s better to ignore most of them. 🙂
