gpsp2B:  I don’t have my hopes up, but it would be a nice surprise!  I am considered high risk because I have type 1 diabetes, so that’s why I have such an early ultrasound.  I would’ve preferred to wait a little longer, but it is what it is! At least if we don’t see one this time, we’ll be able to next appointment! 🙂

LoveAndLaughter:  well I have had my scans so early because of my previous miscarriages and because I got pregnant while going to the fertility specialist (naturally, but they still take care of me the same way).  But 20 weeks does seem pretty late for a first ultrasound..I think the norm in my area is for a first ultrasound at 12 weeks. They would do the NT scan at that one, and then there is an anatomy scan at 20 weeks where you could see the gender etc. I have noticed a lot of differences between the US and Canadian systems though while on here and I’m not sure where you are so it may be norm!

LoveAndLaughter:  20 weeks seems so late to have your first ultrasound! Are you on a specific healthcare plan?

LoveAndLaughter:  around here they make sure to do an early scan for Viability. It’s required before a doctor will see you. however it’s also not uncommon to wait til 20w for the first scan. Some insurances only cover that. Unless you do the first trimester screener for downs and stuff that is between 12-13 I believe.

FutureMrsLodge:  around here it’s standard to have the first scan early for dating and viability but it’s just odd they would do it before you could really see the HB cause that could scare mamas 🙁 I am also high risk and actually see Maternal fetal Medicine after my first ultrasound to make a game plan. This is my 2nd baby though!

gpsp2B:  Just had my appointment this morning and I am measuring at 6w2d.  We saw the gestational sac & yolk sac, but no heartbeat yet so I am scheduled for another ultrasound Wednesday to hear it.  Going to be a long 6 days!  I can’t wait!

gpsp2B:  They said they would give me a due date Wednesday… I’m measuring around 6 days later than I thought I was, so judging by that, I anticipate it will move up about a week.  We’ll see!

I hate long waits, too… I am so impatient!  I am just trying to make it a point to enjoy every second.  I know by the end I will think it all flew by too fast!

LoveAndLaughter:  I’ve heard it depends where you are – my friend is a military wife living on base and her first U/S is 12 wks.  Are you located in the US?

I have my US on monday and I’m majorly bummed that my husband can’t be there to hear the heartbeat.  If they can hear it I’m going to ask if I can film it for him with my iPhone.

After bleeding off and on for the last week I went to the doctor’s today and they did a ultrasound. Baby measures to be 6weeks 6days and I saw the flickering heartbeart (amazing!) But I also was told I have a BICONUATE UTERUS. For those of you who don’t know what that means (I didn’t) it describes a abnormal shaped uterus. Mine has two sides (shaped like a heart) Turns out the baby is on one side and on the other side I am having a PERIOD. How wild is this?! I really need to stay away from google because this has opened up a whole new arsenal of things to worry about. I was told to come in weekly to keep an eye on the bleeding so I pray that this is not going to be an issue.

moniquaa:  I’d be interested in joining the FB group. I’m on FB much more than I’m on the Bee! Can you send me a link to the group or anything??

florence22:  That is crazy!  I hope everything goes okay and the bleeding stops.  Even if it’s considered okay, I’m sure it isn’t comforting to see that at all.  Fx and keep us updated!

florence22:  So glad to hear it’s not anything alarming and your baby is doing just fine!!
