ours is the weekend before memorial day this year (the 17th) which is the Canadian May long weekend.

I don’t mind long weekend weddings but I know they bug some people.  My answer – do whatever works best for YOU.  It’s your wedding, no date is perfect for everyone.  Do what you want 🙂

Creiddylad:  From what you said, it wounds like Memorial Day is a good option in terms of apple blossoms being out and the holiday giving people extra time to travel and be there for your wedding. I don’t even think that sharing the anniversary is that weird because no one really cares about anyone else’s wedding anniversary other than the couple whose anniversary it is. You could give his parents a shoutout during the reception to mention their anniversary and say that they are one of the couples you look to for inspiration…I think that’d be sweet.

But if you think it is weird to share a wedding date then probably the Saturday in the weekend before Memorial Day would get my vote (so May 17th?).

Our wedding is also this year the weekend before Memorial Day weekend. We had 12 people decline because they take annual vacations from our weekend through Memorial Day weekend. These are family members who told us they will not be attending because they cannot do both. So, something to keep in mind. That the holiday weekend is a popular time for people to have annual plans. Even in our family, every year someone goes to “open” the family cabin up north for the season that weekend. Now, I’m pretty sure that would have been put off a week for our wedding but you never know. Travel can also be more expensive etc…as stated already I think..

All that said, we were still going to have our Memorial Day weekend because it seemed like the chance for better (warmer) weather would only go up! But in the end we did the week before because our reception venue already had booked Memorial Day weekend over a year in advance. Our venue is an outdoor garden with optional inside space and we are the first weekend of the year to be scheduled outside. So in terms of weather and foliage, you might be better off with the holiday weekend.
