@sugarpea:  i have a mazda and love it.  i thought i wanted to trade in for a civic, but once i drove one, i didn’t like it.  my guess is to drive both and see which one you like the best.  i thought i would LOVE a civic, but no, i didn’t.

@sugarpea:  yeah the mazda’s are way roomy inside.  i felt like i was in a tunnel in the civic.  the dash was all long and felt like a space ship.  i also didn’t care for the way it drove.  i liked my mazda better and left with it.  it has 90k miles on it and i’ve never had a problem with it.

I test drove both and we decided that we liked the Civic more.  It had more to offer, and seamed a lot more comfy for us.  Also we test drove both during the winter and it was slushy outside, and we decided that the civic preformed better.  Also I liked that the Civic has really goood ratings regarding safety and if you need replacement parts.  Also I think the insurence was lower when I looked it up through our car insurence.

I agree that the Mazsa 3 was really cute!

I’m a big fan of the Civic and all Hondas in general.  I drive a 2010 now, and my Fiance just bought a new Honda CRV.  My dad is currently driving a 13 year old Civic and has yet to have any major problems with it.  In general I’m the type of person who wants to drive a car a long time until it dies before buying a new one, and Civics seem to have a good track record of doing that.

Gas is over $4.00 a gallon where I live, so it isn’t about feeling guilty to me – it’s about not lighting money on fire in the streets for no good reason, haha.

We recently bought a Hyundai Elantra, and it’s amazing – bigger than the civic on the inside, as good or better gas mileage, and really slick looking. My dad and mom have both gone through two generations of Hyundais with no major mechanical problems. Totally sold us.

I had a Honda Civic and I never had a problem with it! It was one of the best cars I have ever owned… but….. I HAVE ALWAYS WANTED A MAZDA 3!!! So I am obviously no help to you, but I am secretly hoping you go with the Mazda 3! πŸ™‚

I’m going to be watching this thread because I am eager to see responses! I’ve adored the mazda3 for eons, but I also like Hondas and toyotas.

I test drove both about a year ago and to me the Mazda 3 won that battle. I ended up going with a VW Jetta because it was less expensive and much more… luxurious? than either the Civic or the 3, but I did like the 3 quite a bit. I was very underwhelmed by the Civic. I was trading in a 1998 Saturn and the Civic didn’t feel like an upgrade at all, I felt like it was the same car. My sister has a Civic that she’s very happy with and my Fiance has a Mazda RX-8 that we LOVE (granted it’s not a 3). If the VW wasn’t in the mix I would have bought the 3, hands down.

when I was buying a car, i was trying to decide between a mazda 3 and civic.  i test drove the mazda 3 (the older one, 2008) first & loved it/decided to buy it, so i never ended up driving the civic.  i don’t regret my choice, though.

I have a Mazda 3 and love it! It is a manual transmission and it had been GREAT! (got it in 2007 have over 90k miles on it and have never had a problem). I woul recommend it any day. My fam has had numerous Mazdas and we keep going back to them. I drive it 100 mike round trip daily.

Edit: oh I forgot to Say that Fiance is looking into a Mazda 6 as his next car bc he loves my 3 but wants somethig bigger (he has a Hyundai now)

In my experiece with the cars in my family, Mazdas break a lot and Hondas go forever. Plus, if I remember right from the last time I was car shopping, the Civic gets better gas milage.

@sugarpea:  I have heard mixed things on the mazda. I have a friend who bought one new and within a year had to get a new car because of all the crap that went wrong. Otheres swear by them. I prefer Honda I love honda and I am looking at a civic myself. So there i suppose is my biased opinion
