@ImeldaV:  I’m so glad I came across that web site.  Not only did I need help being frugal with our meals, but I just recently got shingles and so did she.  Thank you very much for posting that!

Do you have a Costco or BJs membership?  You can buy meats at a good price, portion them out, and freeze them.  Olive oil rubs flavor the meat, and you can add easy things like garlic powder or Italian seasonings.

I like this website: http://www.mealsmatter.org/MealPlanning/MealPlanner/

Its really cool because you save your recipes into a personal recipe book, and you can also search for recipes in their database (uploaded by other users). You can then plan each meal for the week using your recipes. Once you’ve done that, you can automatically create a shopping list and it will add all the ingredients you need to your list (and then obviously just go through and delete the things you dont need – spices, other ingredients you may already have on hand like eggs, flour, etc).

I also second the above poster who asked about a Costco or BJs or Sam’s membership. Its great for buying things in bulk that you know you’ll need and use up (even tuna fish – I know you’re tired of it, but you can at least buy a whole bunch at once instead of individual cans).

Honestly, I feel like BJ’s and Costco type stores don’t save me any money. I actually feel like I end up spending more because you’re buying sooo much! Just shop at your regular stores and shop the sales!! That part is huge. I only buy meats in particular that are on sale because if you don’t you end up spending ridiculous amounts of money. Practically every grocery store has a weekly flyer. Just take some time to look through each week and find the deals. It seriously helps!!

One way to get a few meals out of something is with a rotisserie chicken (they’re less than $5.00 at Costco and lasts us a few meals).  Eat it one night for dinner, use it for sandwiches for lunch and then make a soup out of it.  I even tend to freeze some of the soup to eat at a latter date.  As long as you keep other staples around there are lots of things you can do with it.  Or use leftovers to stir fry before you try to make a soup (or stock, I’ve done that a few times) out of the carcass.  Lots of things you can do with chicken!

@thegreeneyedkri:  I’m jealous a rotisserie chicken lasts you that long! We cook whole chickens a lot and they usually don’t last for more than one meal. SO is a huge eater though. Like, 5 chicken sandwiches, a cheeseburger, and fries at jack in the box kind of eater lol.
