My SO has told me to figure out what ring I would like to be custom made. I have finally figured it, or at least thought I had. I showed people my dream ring and got told how awful it is. I love Marquis stones and want a different ring. I love being a bit strange yet still elegant in my opinion. I have attached the orginal ring and my edited version. Please give me your thoughts! Would it look as bad as they say.

Marquis stones were more popular around 25 years ago, but there is nothing wrong with them! I think they’re gorgeous and unique stones. I have a round stone and sometimes I wonder if it’s a bit boring?

I think it’s beautiful! Don’t let other people’s opinions get in your head, especially since you’re the one that is going to wear it forever. Get your dream ring!

All that matters is you love it. No one else’s opinion matters. 🙂

The only opinions about your engagement ring that matter are yours and your FI’s. If you love marquise stones, get a marquise!
Here’s a thread about them for inspiration! http://boards.weddingbee.com/topic/lets-see-your-marquise-rings

If you love it, go for it! It’s not my personal style, but I’m not the one wearing it, and I think without a doubt it will be gorgeous.

I personally love marquise stones! i think they are beautiful! people with ring envy will always talk smack esp if they are waiting to get engaged! just get what you love and as long as you love it it shouldnt matter! people tell me all the time how horrible it is that i dont want a traditional diamond as my center stone…i just happen to love moissy stones…so no matter what people say to me i stay with my decision because it is what we want….somepeople are really against different cuts and alternative choices because its not what “everyone else is doing” many people are trying to talk me out of my current choice….i want a round moissy in yellow or rose gold…however many people think this is a redickulous choice because it is not a diamond in white gold or platinum! so i say to heck with what people think…do what you love…pick what you want to wear forever…and dont let anyone rain on your parade….that way when the current ring trend changes and fades away…you still love the ring they hated on and they will feel insecure about their ring because its “not the style”….so i say do what you love! forget the rest…they probably just mad they dont have a man who loves them the way you do…. rock on lady! i think it looks awesome!

@kansas_nurse: Your reply me laugh and smile so much … thank you. I just wanted a bit of positive reassurance.
Thank you everyone. I feel much better about getting what I want and not caring about others. I try to remind myself that “beauty is in the eye of the beholder” so I may love my ring and my SO while others don’t see why. Their loss!! 😛 I love it and him and am happy.

@always_the_bridesmaid: Right on! If anyone gives you crap about it, just say something like, “Good thing you’re not the one wearing it then!”

I have a round stone, but I’ve always liked marquise cuts. In fact I think the setting you picked looks better with the marquise than the round!

@always_the_bridesmaid: Aw…don’t feel bad! Get whatever you want! I think the marquise is quite lovely! I had one for my first marriage… 😉 Listen, you can’t let other people’s opinions matter. Because they don’t! Only yours!
Actually, I think both of the rings you posted are quite beautiful! Go with the one you want though!
And! Your setting is gorgeous..any stone will be beautiful in it!

@always_the_bridesmaid: Who tells you it’s awful?
Unless they have NO imagination and are making fun of your photoshop job then it really is them who is awful.
I think it’ll be lovely.
