    Maybe everyone should lay off on chastising the OP — the Mother-In-Law doesn’t even have a diagnosis.

    I’m really sorry you’re going through this. There are a lot of people on this board who will basically tell you to squash your personality and become a doormat if that means pleasing your husband/inlaws, so don’t take it to heart. If your Mother-In-Law does have dementia, there are a lot of resources for him and for you. Best of luck to you.

    P.S. I think staying in a hotel while recognizing that you may have to visit her more is very proactive and very healthy for you and your husband.

    if I were you, I wouldn’t go in May if she doesn’t have at least a consultation or two with specialists under her belt, if not a diagnosis… Because that is some messed up behaviour, and you need to have some sort of understanding of what the heck is up.
