My boyfriend and I are in the process of looking for an engagement ring. After a ton of research on Wedding Bee, I have absolutely fallen in love with Ovals! We’ve decided on moissanite but went to a jewelry store last week just to try on sizes and styles. I tried on a 1.5 carat and loved the size for my finger (4.75).
I recently read online that the Moissanite 1.5 equivalent (8×6) is actually only 1.2 carats. Has anyone else heard this?
Also, anyone with ovals out there mind sharing their specs? Carat size, dimensions, and finger size would be amazing! We’re planning on ordering the 8×6 and having it custom set but I’m a little nervous about size now. And I just always love seeing y’alls beautiful rings 🙂

diamonds and mossies are not the same density so a diamond that weights 1.5 carats is 8×6 (ish each are different and can be shallower or deeper) while a mossy that is 8×6 weights only 1.2 carats. But they sell it as a “equivalent” to the diamond carat. So you get a 1.5 carat diamond look.

Ah ok, that makes sense! I was worried that it was the opposite -maybe diamonds have a shallower cut so a moissanite would face up at 1.2 but weigh 1.5. But your answer makes much more sense. Thank you 🙂

I was originally planning for an 8×6 moissy, but in a weird freak coincidence my futher Mother-In-Law gave my fiance an heirloom oval diamond measuring a tiny bit more than 8×6 on both sides 🙂 The stone is 1.3 carats and gets plenty of ooooos and ahhhhs on my 5.5 finger. I think on 4.75 the 8×6 would by no means look small, but depends on your lifestyle.
