How old are the scars that you are trying to get rid of?  For older scars, it can take 6 months before you see results using Mederma.

Hello! I’ve used Mederma before (the generic brand actually) and it worked! But I must say the scar was small to begin with.

Good luck to you! But to be honest no one will probably even notice the scar except you.

Any cream works, doesn’t need to be mederma.  Studies have shown that the act of rubbing the cream in is what breaks down the scars… Any scar older than a year is unlikely to change much, as the healing is mostly complete.  Wear lots of sunscreen, because sun makes scarring worse.

I know my bro in law (surgeon) says to use it on scars which are healing a month or so after a surgery, not when any wound is weeping of course and after it’s closed well…

I used a similar type of cream on my c section scar after I had my son and it is completely gone.  You’d literally have to shine a bright light on it the right way to even see if it’s there. (not that I go around showing it off mind you!Cool)

I havent personally used it, but my dad did on his open heart surgery scar. You can of course still see it, but after about 3 solid months of using it, it was much less noticible. Hope this helps and good luck!

Mrs DG nailed that one…Dermatologists and Derm PA’s don’t recommend it as it has never been proven in studies to do anything more than placebo. Also, the main ingredient is Onion gel extract which irritates lots of people causing major itching which patients assume is a form of healing! Silicone scar patches and plain old Vit. E are what we recommend and have actual evidence that they work.

I used it as soon as my doctor told me I was able to, and I think it really helped.  I stopped using it and my scars continued to fade for a couple of years.  So if they are relatively new scars, don’t lose hope!
