Just curious to see how many MT/CLS bees there, and…
1.How long you’ve been in the field?
2. What peeked your interest in this field?
3. Where do you work (ie Hospital lab, pharmaceutical lab, etc)
4. What area of the lab do you work in?
5. Are you satisfied with your pay?
6. Anything else you care to share.
I have been working as an MT since July 2013. I work at a public hospital in the automated chemistry lab. I sort of just stumbled upon this career. I knew I wanted to do something science related. After browsing through a list of different majors, I saw “Biomedical Laboratory Science” and instantly knew that was what I was looking for.
I am mostly satisfied with my pay. I say that because I was born into a low income family, so having a job that pays over $21/hr is amazing. However, in comparison to other health care professions such as nursing, it leaves a bit to be desired. Especially considering that our work plays such an important role in medical decisions and overall patient care.
Even though it isn’t quite what I thought it would be, I can honestly say that I enjoy my job. It also feels good to know that I am putting my degree to work. I know so many people who have graduated from college, and are working jobs that have little or no relation to what they’ve went to school for.
