@kerrileigh3:  I purposely cut out favors, so I had to giggle at that comment but other than that, I think you’re right.  It sounds like neither FI’s family or you two have the budget to travel to see each other.

Sounds like it’s easy for Fiance to say he wants to use wedding money to see his parents because most of the spare money is coming from Y-O-U!

@kerrileigh3:  Sorry but family first in my eyes. Family (both mine and FI’s) are really important to me so I can’t imagine rather spending money on my dress or wedding favors than going to visit my or my FI’s family, especially considering you have never met them before.

@kerrileigh3:  Gotcha. But all that is moot point if your Fiance won’t marry you until you meet his family. Try Southwest or Airtran – there flights are pretty affordable if you can book far enough in advance.  Also look into Travel Zoo, they have some decent deals on airfare sometimes.

I think you’ve got a few priorities out of whack. Your Future Mother-In-Law and Future Father-In-Law will be your new family for the rest of your life, and I’d hope you’d put the opportunity to meet them as a higher priority than favors or dress budget.

@kerrileigh3:  I guess I would suggest you talk wedding budget with your Fiance and let him know what he’s expected to contribute.  He doesn’t get one wedding for free just because he’s still paying off the last one!

Let him know what it would mean for you two’s wedding in terms of making it smaller or pushing it back if he demands this trip.

Sorry – can you tell money and my Fiance have frustrated me lately ๐Ÿ˜‰

I would cut the favors.  We had chocolate and ours melted during shipping (yeah shipping to FL I totally didn’t even think of that) and no one missed them.

They are going to be your family.  Maybe sit down and re-think some of the budget.  I would plan on the trip to FL during the winter tho, that way you could have a nice warm weekend to visit ๐Ÿ˜€ before it gets ungodly hot and while it’s still cold in Chicago ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜€
