I like them both, but my personal tastes always run towards a plain band, it’s just me.
I don’t really think it’s a big deal that she redesigned though. Women get “upgrades” all the time.

I know women get upgrades all the time but for some reason it bothers me that she did this, after Harry apparently designed it himself and made a big deal about the yellow gold being her favorite. I can’t expl it but this just rubs me the wrong way a little. I also think the band is now too thin! I like a pave band but it looks a little too delicate. Also is the center stone the same? Or smaller?

caligirlinmichigan :  Upgrades aren’t really that common the UK, especially not so soon after someone gets married. I only know one woman who upgraded and it was for her 20th wedding anniversary and now they’re divorced. I don’t even think you could call this an upgrade as she only received the ring 1-2 years ago and it’s not like he couldn’t afford this ring at the time.

In the grand scheme of things I don’t care as it’s their relationship and her ring, but I can just see this adding to the negative feelings surrounding her tbh especially as people view Royal spending as tax payers money.

I liked the old. It was classic and traditional. Now it looks like a typical pinterest trendy wedding band.

I like the pavé (or is it millgrain?), better.

But I agree that it may not be the best PR move.

ariesscientist :  yeah I just don’t see why she felt the need to do that. It seems odd. And I like her, im not a hater. But this is just weird to me.

I like the old one better – more classic and royal somehow – and it showed off the beautiful gold colour. Strange decision, in my mind.

I know people around here love plain bands, but I’ve always found them very dated looking and completely lacking in personality.

With that being said, I did actually love her old ring because of the side stones (even though I’m not a fan of trilogy rings).

I voted for the newer version of her ring though. Much more modern.

I figured she redesigned it because she got typical sausage fingers from pregnancy. That made me like her a bit more as being “human.” But I don’t really like that instead of simply sizing the band, she had a redesign to take it from a classic ring that Harry designed to something so on-trend in engagement ring fashion. It definitely puts off a bit of a “he didn’t do it right, so I will do it” vibe. And it no longer seems timeless.

It makes me think that we’ll see changes to the ring multiple times down the road, and I really like the idea of royals picking signature “classic” rings that become part of the signature of their marriage. THAT thin, paired with pave, isn’t built to last the test of time. And, it’s already visibly slightly too big for her finger again. That doesn’t look like a setting that will be happy being sized down or up too many times.

I was actually hoping she was wearing a stand-in moissanite band that mimicked her real ring. I think we’ll end up seeing a few iterations of her “engagement ring.”  She also seems like a “push present” kind of girl. I had always hoped, due to her beautiful coloring, that she would pick an emerald as a center stone. I’d like to see them come back in fashion, and I lean toward appreciating a high quality gemstone over a diamond for a classic, chic display of status.

I’d rather call it an update than an upgrade. I don’t understand why she’s shamed for it. I prefer the old one but I’m not the one wearing it. It’s not like she completely changed it, she added a pave band which is far from an expensive change. Maybe she also finds a thinner band more comfortable, who knows? I guess what I’m trying to say is that once again, a woman gets criticized for taking a very personal matter (and completely irrelevant in the grand scheme of things) in her own hands.
