LovelyHibou:  I’m surprised she was induced at (what they thought was) 38 weeks. Unless there’s a medical reason for it — eg the mother has preeclampsia, or the fetus is in distress — I don’t think most practitioners would suggest induction before 40 weeks at the earliest. It is well established that critical development continues to occur late in pregnancy, and it’s really best to leave the baby in as long as possible (obviously not so long that the placenta stops functioning).

shanbp:  Did you get your sweep yet hun? Mine was this morning. I was really glad Darling Husband was with me! He stayed out of the way while they did the sweep as the dr and nurse kind of took up all the room, but I think I’d have struggled to drive as it made my pelvis and lower abdomen really achy and heavy and I’ve had a teeny bit of bleeding. I hope yours goes/has gone OK!

shanbp:  Had a sweep on my due date at 2:00pm. I was 2 cm dilated at that point.  I went into labor at 9:00pm that night!

shanbp:  good luck today!! excuse my spelling, I am on my phone! Had another huge bloody show    last night and again this morning. Contractions started every 5 mins at 9pm last night. The hospital advised me to take paracetamol, have lots of water and try to doze. Its now 830AM and     they are just starting up again! Trying to breathe through them and wondering if we’ll have a baby today!!!

I had 2, I think 38 then 39 weeks.  The first time I didn’t even know she was doing it, just seemed like part of the normal cervical check – definitely wasn’t painful.  Second time she told me she was doing it, still didn’t hurt.  I was due to be induced the next day so it was a last effort I guess.  Neither “worked” as I was still induced, but it was worth a shot!

shanbp:  I know!! because I had complications with blood pressure problems, I was happy it helpex. Much better than induction!! But, doctors both times said that I was ‘ready’ and could go anytime. Good luck!!

LovelyHibou:  Right? People get really worked up over dates and ‘deadlines’, but unless there’s a medical issue, your body and your baby knows better than any doctor ๐Ÿ™‚ You’re not ‘overdue’ until the placenta stops working properly.

shanbp:  What’s the deal with pitocin?  I went into labor and had it, and it was a 12 hour labor, with the baby out with only 12 pushes.  The day before I went into labor I saw the doctor I was closed up tight, she told me that this baby isn’t coming out at all.  That I was not dilated and the baby hadn’t even descended.  12 hours later after I saw her, guess what?  My water broke.  And I was early.
