nycsa :  I know this thread is old but your husband’s problem sounds like a nickel allergy! If he really liked wearing a ring maybe you could surprise him with a palladium or platinum band on an anniversary 😉

I am curious – what kind of jobs CAN’T you wear a wedding band? It seems a lot of people have said that and I never heard of that…now I am curious!

ct2015 :  I work at an industrial plastics manufacturing facility and we don’t allow any jewelry on the production floor as it can get caught in machinery and rip a finger off pretty much. Some areas can wear a plain band but the risk is always there depending on the type of machines being run.

Kimbalina81 :  haha I’m glad I’m not the only one who is inexplicably bothered by what other people do with their ring fingers. Yes, my husband wears his and it’s always been a big joke between us, he teases me about it not being important to wear because THAT’S how badly it would go over with me if he didn’t. For some reason it bothers me when other couples don’t wear their rings. Probably for the same reason any type of outward disrespect shown from a man to his wife that I am witness to is upsetting. My brother doesn’t wear his and it drives me crazy even though it’s none of my business and I shouldn’t care. I also have a friend from college who I pretty much only see in facebook photos and she never wears her set in pictures around town. She even didn’t wear them in a photo shoot she did with her babies, her babies!! Do you really want a bare left finger in your mommy and me portraits? I mean, if you’re a single mother then obviously rock it and be proud, but this is a woman who had a traditional full Catholic Mass ceremony two years before getting pregnant, a veil with a blusher and is pretty conservative in general. She took her husband’s name and everything…I just don’t get it. I guess they figure everyone knows they’re married or they’re not as image conscious as me and don’t care what people think but I’d rather get a root canal than have a bear left ring finger in my mommy and me portraits when I was in fact a married mom.

I also think part of the reason I’m bothered by this is because I’m a nosy person and like the traditional symbolism we have in society that a ring on the left ring finger means you’re married. I’m not usually ocd about things but people should just stick with that and all should partake IMO. I’m mildly perturbed by any deviation from this tradition. When people wear it as a necklace or on their right hand I become irrationally annoyed as well. Or when unmarried people wear a plain band on their left ring finger that looks like a wedding band bothers me too. Again I realize I have no right to judge and it’s none of my business, but I get annoyed on the down low 🙂
