emmzsea : My dh has a black zirconium with ironwood inlay and after 2 years of non-stop wear ( in a million totally inappropriate situations like rock climbing and working on cars 🙄) the exterior of the ring is totally scratched and not really even black anymore. It’s like a scuffed grey. I keep telling him we need to get him a new ring but he refuses and says his has character and he loves it just the way it is. It will be interesting to see how much longer this one holds up. I definitely do not think it will be a lifetime ring for him.

desertgypsy : Wow thanks so much for the info, that’s really helpful to know. We will definitely look into some alternatives then.

emmzsea : I would take a photo but he literally never takes it off lol

desertgypsy : I suspect that will be the case with FH as well, so we will definitely need something pretty durable! Haha ☺️

I know someone who got a wooden one. Not my taste, but it was kind of cool.

mel2 : Same problem here 🙁 I was totally fine with a plain band for myself but FH wants something non-plain and it’s so hard to find one he likes. We might probably end up custom making one.

I bought my boy friend a carbon fiber and titanium engagement ring. I dont’ have it with me, but it looks pretty similar to the photo below. It’s super comfortable, and to us it looks pretty classy.
For our wedding band, we decided to go with ceramic. Ours are white, but they also can come in red, blue, black…
Or perhaps you can play with the texture/carving of the metal? Here is a pair that we also considered:

My H has tungsten. We got it custom made and it was cheap and exactly what he wanted but looks awesome.

FH got this as his band. He works with tools all day and fell in love with the idea of having a ring with knurling, like you might find on an old tool. It’s made out of titanium.
