My fiance is beginning to look for a tuxedo. He wants to buy it and invest in a relatively high quality one. Does anyone have any suggestions on where to go to find one?

Men’s Warehouse gives the groom his tux rental for free with the rntal of 6 tuxes for wedding day…OR $450 credit toward a tux/suit to own.
Well I don’t know how high quality you want, but my Fiance picked up a very nice tuxedo at JCPenny when they had a doorbuster sale (every friday they put different things on door buster) and with a 20% coupon. I mean it isn’t silk lined or labeled (like Tommy Hilfieger), but it is quality. It ended up being around $89. We still have to get it tailored so he doesn’t look like a box (broad shoulders), but I am really happy about it!
I told him to go pick out three more suits for our cruise since I don’t want him wearing a tuxedo on all 6 of our fancy nights. 🙂
We went to Saks and Fiance got a really nice Hugo Boss tux. It’s a good design for a tall, lean guy, since it’s slimmer fit. I think that unless you have a particular designer in mind, department stores are helpful because they have a variety of styles and designers.
Ahhh. A topic I love. Does he want a standard, classic tuxedo? If so, here is his new Bible: http://www.blacktieguide.com/ They have buying tips and retailer suggestions based on budget in the Buying tab.
He can look all over the place for the different pieces. You can purchase the jacket and pants separate from the waist covering, tie, shirt, etc. So hunt down the perfect jacket and trousers first. I found my tux on sale at a local tux retailer at 50% off. If you do this early enough, you can do what I do: stalk classic tuxedo retailers online for huge sales. I stalked Ralph Lauren, Hickey Freeman, Thomas Pink, Brooks Brothers, etc., and got my shirt, bowtie, and cummerbund at ridiculous discounts. And I had a shoe style picked out and just waited several months for the sort that I liked to go on sale. Found them on Endless.com for $100 bucks off.
But yes, there are very nice Hugo Boss tuxes at Saks and Macy’s. I’m sorta interested in how the J. Crew tux looks, if he likes a more modern look. It’s pretty modern, though. Not sure how long it would hold up once the super narrow lapel, super trim look fades out. But it looks pretty cool and modern and could be obtained for a decent price with one of their 20% off coupons.
I wouldn’t go to Men’s Warehouse to buy, if I were you. They’re notoriously bad at getting men in a suit that fits them properly, so you have to walk in there knowing exactly what you want and sorta ignore the sales people. (I’m sure there are good salespeople there somewhere in the country, but this is the reputation). For rentals, who cares, but when you’re buying—ending up with a jacket that’s too big is a pain for a tailor to get to look right.
What part of the country are you in?
