I don’t think you ever have to include menu cards… especially for buffet.  But if you’d like to, go for it!

We are not doing it.  I will probably buy nicer favors for the guests with the savings.

People always say that menus have no place at a buffet but that couldn’t be more wrong. Menus at a buffet actually help cut down on lines and traffic jams because they inform guests at each place setting (after they find their table) before they get up to fill their plates as to what is available and what to avoid for any reason.

DIY menus are really not expensive and cost pennies to print. The expense comes from fancy paper and having it done professionally.

I have been going back and forth over this.  At our venue, the buffet was the most expensive and offered the most food, which is what my parents wanted.  We have been doing upscale the whole way with letterpress for everything, including the program and we are going back and forth over spending even more for this menu card.  At first I thought we should, but now I’m actually thinking that I don’t want to do it.  With a buffet, everyone is going to get whatever they want between all of the different options, I think that a menu card is really only just one of the added touches… but for us at an addition $700, I just don’t think its worth it.  I also don’t want to print my own and it not match everything else.

Sigh.  I was actually about to write a post about this when you did – so thank you!

We are having a buffet and are not including signage at the buffet table. We are including menus at each setting though. I am sure our guests will be able to figure out what each thing is once they get to the buffet table. I would much rather have a menu at my setting than have to wait and see what is at the buffet. I like to plan what I am eating before I get there. Whenever we go to a buffet, I always walk around the stations to see what I want before I dish up my plate.

I am going to DIY our menus and put them inside the napkins on a charger plate at the tables. I don’t think it will be very expensive to do it this way. I am going to use parchment type paper to make them.
