So I am set on a dress..or so I thought. Anyone who has gotten a mermaid dress, can you pee while wearing it? I never thought about this! No way I can go a whole night without and it would be so inconvenient to have to take it all off every time. Also, will my Fiance be able to get my garter off? He wanted to do the whole funny “stick your head up her dress” thing, and I’m realizing, this probably won’t work at all. Any suggestions with how its worked out for others? Below is a picture of the dress I’m getting.. Arabella by Maggie Sottero. Anyone else who’s tried on this dress, I’d love to see pictures of you in it! I have yet to see anyone else in it 🙁

I can slide my dress up over my hips. Its a little more trumpet styled though.

I did not wear a mermaid gown, so I cannot speak to that issue specifically. However, I did change completely out of and back into my gown evey time that I used the ladies’ room that evening. Unfortunately, it really did take up a great deal of time to do this.
Regarding your garter, it seems from your pic that this should not be an issue if you wear your garter just above your knee.

I wore a mermaid style dress. I wore Maggie Sottero Barcelona, so very similar shape as yours. I was able to wiggle the dress over my hips and then sit on the toilet backwards to pee. I wore a garter just above my knee. Didn’t do the regular garter toss but I’m sure it will work fine.

I wore a mermaid gown. I avoided liquids, so I only had to pee once. But I did go to the ladies’ room all by myself! I shimmied the dress up instead of taking it off, then gathered the bottom of it in front of me to hold.

I wore Maggie’s Nova and it’s technically a fit n’ flare not mermaid but pretty close. I actually wanted the seamstress to take my dress in more at the hip area to make it more mermaid-ish and she said no! It was a good thing too cuz I never would have been able to get the dress up high enough to go!

I could pull mine up and over my hips to pee and managed to pee alone all day long. The bulk of the skirt is what caused me the most problems. Oh and I wore my garter just above the knee.

Are you doing a bustle? That would help a bit, other than that it may be possible but require planning and time.
Here’s tips on how to go to the bathroom in a wedding gown that I saw on pinterest

try your dress on again and while in the dressing room try and see if you can pull it up and squat… thats the best answet I can give… You’re the one wearing it all day and night and you’re also the one who has to be able to lift it up to pee, so try it out while in the dressing room….

I could not pee with my dress on. I just couldn’t hike it up so everytime I went to the bathroom, I had to remove the entire dress and walk around in my underwear hahaha, what an experience.
My knickers had peonies on it and my niece told everyone that redband had ‘Chinese’ underwear;)

First, that dress is stunning!!! Get it!! I wore a mermaid dress too, and I had my bridal party hold my dress up for me when I had to pee.. It wasn’t the most comfortable thing to do, obviously lol, but I only had to pee once.

Yep I totally could, and my dress was TIGHT! (I could barely sit through dinner, but that’s another story).
You just wiggle it up to your waistline, and since the flared part is much more roomy, you’re fine. The one thing I would point out, is that you should pee backwards, as in walk towards the toilet holding your dress up, and staddle it facing the back/tank part. It feels a little awkward at first, but it’s easier to hold the dress up in front of you, than gather it all up and the back and sit down. Especially if there’
s a train, even if its bustled.

I ended up ordering the dress today. I absolutely love it and I can’t let a thing like peeing stop me from getting it. I’ll just have to make it work! Thanks so much for all of your suggestions!
