What kind of a look are you going for?  And what is a realistic budget per person that you want?  Our reception was at the Barn at Gibbet Hill in Groton and I LOVED it but it’s on the pricey side so I’m not sure if it would work for you.  There are tons of inns and bed and breakfasts in the Gloucester and Rockport area that might work for you.

You sound like us – we loved the Elks Gloucester because it’s not cookie cutter at all – you can see the entire ocean from the windows, which means it sort of ‘seems’ outside with the gorgeous view, but you still get to be inside in a comfortable setting 🙂 Check it out. Stupidly they’ve upgraded since the photos on their site, so now include free Chivari chairs instead of those ugly covered ones, the dance floor is gorgeous, etc.

I went to a gorgeous wedding at the Museum of Science – not sure what their prices are like.

I agree with Mightywomabat.. you should start looking at museums and historic homes.
