I ordered our Save the Dates from Wedding Paper Divas and used their gold metallic envelopes, which also had a bit of a shimmer to it.  We sent them out last month and it seems they all arrived to their destination!

My only advice is that regular pens won’t show up enough to be easy for the Post Office folks to read.  We used one of the envelopes to test varirous pens — and a medium tip Sharpie worked great!  They looked amazing and we got tons of compliments!

As long as the address can be clearly read (the post office uses machines to do this, so it needs to be dark enough that the shimmer wont interfere with legibility) you should be fine.

I would use a Sharpie like the PP suggested, or address labels

I had shimmer envelopes, and printed the addresses on them myself. They smeared a bit, and made my OCD crazy, so it just took a lot of patience! :o)
