We stayed at Secrets Capri in Riviera Maya for a week for our honeymoon last September and we are going back to Riviera Maya for our anniversary next month and staying at Secrets Maroma. I kept going back and forth between Cabo and Riviera Maya and went with RM because the water is turquoise and the beaches are much nicer. Cabo is on the ocean side which means the water is darker and can be rough for swimming.  Riviera Maya is on the gulf side which means the water is much prettier and swimmer friendly. I think it just depends on if the beach is important to you or if you’re good with spending more time at the pool.  We prefer the beach 🙂

We got married & honeymooned at Privilege Aluxes on Isla Mujeres- a tiny island just off the coast of Cancun. We LOVED every minute of it! Not sure what type of environement your looking for but it totally suited our laid-back style. We loved that the island was more authentic & not as commercialized as Cancun. Everyone we met was very kind & we felt safer there even at night walking around barefoot than we did in Cancun. Our flight back with airtran got cancelled so now we have free roundtrip tix we’re going to use to go back on our 1 yr!

@blondie_bride:  +1000!

We honeymooned at The Royal Playa del Carmen for 10 nights and it was absolute paradise.  The level of service was unbelievable and the food/drinks were amazing.  The staff are so attentive and the rooms were impeccable.  It’s a newer resort and very well kept.  I recommend it to everyone!

@stephthegreat:  Thank you!! We stayed at Sunset Beach in Cabo and it was absolutely GORGEOUS! We could have stayed there the entire week if we wanted. We wanted to explore Cabo though. Which, by the way, felt very safe. I am an extreme worry wort and tend to freak about everything, but the people there are phenomenal. The workers at the resort are outstanding and an absolute pleasure to be around!! Our resort was about 5-8 minutes from the city, but I loved it!! There was a free shuttle into the city to their sister resort, The Rose. I will be honest, our resort was on the Pacific side so you could not swim in that ocean, but I am not a big ocean swimmer so it didn’t bother me. If you want to actually swim in the water you can go to the sister resort. The waves at our resort were impeccable. Absolutely gorgeous and there is this beautiful rock formation that is wonderful for photo ops:) The resort has like 7 pools, each for different things.. An adult pool, sky pool, main pool, etc. There are several restaurants. It’s like a mini city to be honest. There’s also the Pacifica right next door and you can visit that resort for free as well. It’s very holistic, tranquil, romantic. Stunning! We will definitely be going back!! The resort has a website.. It is owned by Pueblo Bonito! If you have any questions specifically, let me know!! Also, tons of activities! We snorkled, swam with dolphins, ziplined, couples massages, painted pottery. So fun!!

We just got back yesterday from the Mayan Riviera and loved it!! We stayed at the Valentin Imperial Maya, which was absolutely wonderful. We seriously don’t have a single complaint about the resort (except that we had to leave). We’re already trying to figure out how soon we can get back.

We did one tour off the resort where we went to a local Mayan village, did 2 ziplines, rappelled into a cenote to go swimming, ate a traditional Mayan lunch, and visited the ruins at Coba.

As far as safety, I would say I felt better about Mexico that I did Jamaica. I think I would be more likely to return to Mexico.

@Miss_E_xx:  Capella Pedregal! Not your typical, cookie cutter all inclusive.

@Miss_E_xx:  the riviera maya is very nice for high end all-inclusive resorts.  it is very safe and the service is always amazing.  we have a home 3 hours from this area so we visit that coast quite frequently.

i am familiar with most of the resorts that pp mentioned and they are all lovely.

jenna.zerio:  We stayed at Secrets Silversand. Beautiful resort. Beach was just okay. Amazing service. Great food. It`s a bit out of the way from Cancun etc. so a quieter resort. We really enjoyed it!

We stayed at the One and Only Pamilla and LOVED it.  Its a gorgeous resort but it is about 20 – 30 minutes from downtown Cabo, which we actually found perfect for our honeymoon.  They have 3 beautiful golf courses and the food is amazing.  The pools and beach side cabanas were great.  The best part was the really friendly staff.  I highly recommend!
