@MrsN14:  My Fiance and I stayed at the Valentin Imperial Maya in Playa del Carmen (just south of Cancun) in November.  It was our first trip to Mexico, and we had a great experience!

I’d definitely recommend the Valentin for a honeymoon, it’s a little pricey but it’s super luxurious and adults-only.

Also, if it helps ease Fh’s mind, most resorts have a manned security gate and check each vehicle that enters to be sure they’re guests or workers at the resort, so we felt very comfortable and safe!  There were also some security people around the perimeters of the resort and at the edges of the beach.  They make sure the guests are safe and secure.

@MrsN14:  Our Honeymoon will be my third trip to Mexico.. and let me just say I LOVE Mexico! I’ve stayed in Puerta Vallarta & Cancun (we’re HMing in Cancun). Both times I went with girlfriends and never once did any of us feel unsafe. The resorts are especially safe, they have security & I think the locals know not to mess with people at the resorts. We (3 young woman) had no problem walking around, the touristy area — I wouldn’t venture far from the main strip of hotels/restaurants/shopping.. For our Honeymoon we are staying at Fiesta Americana Condesa in Cancun, I’ve read many many reviews about this resort and I’d say 95% of them are raving reviews. We have friends who just stayed there in January & they raved about it, they are getting married there this Sept.

Yes some parts of Mexico are unsafe, but so is every where else in the world. Just be smart, use good judgement and you’ll be fine!

God I can’t wait.. in 60 days I’ll be on the beach in Cancun.. yay!!

Secrets Maroma Beach was amazing!  If you search the boards there are tons of Bees raving about it.

We stayed at two amazing all inclusives in the Cancun area for our HM (5 nights at each)–Excellence Playa Mujeres and Iberostar Grand Playa Paraiso–and I would highly recommend either hotel.  We felt extremely safe at the hotels, it does make you feel a little safer that there are multiple security gates for each hotel.  We even took a cab to Playa del Carmen a couple times, to Market 28, and to downtown Cancun (the “Strip” where the majority of the hotels are located), and felt safe everywhere we went.

From what I’ve heard, the areas in Mexico that are near the borders tend to be less safe.  Cancun is right in the middle of the country, not close to any other countries, and gets pretty much all of its income from tourists, so the people there work hard to make it fun and safe so we want to come back!

@Meowkers:  +1 to Secrets Maroma.

We’re nowhere near booking our honeymoon But we basically have it planned. It looks so amazing. As for the safety, as long as you use street smarts when you’re off the resort you’ll be more than fiathlete unsafe areas in Mexico are mainly Mexico City and areas around the American boarder.

We stayed at Live Aqua it is AMAZING!!  So beautiful and the place is gorgeous!  Staff there are the friendliest and go out of your way to help – check them out on Trip Advisor last time I checked they were rated number 3 out of over 150 hotels and price is decent..

Fiance and I vacationed to Cancun and stayed at the GR Caribe Royal Solaris last summer and it was gorgeous and VERY well priced, amazing staff, very friendly. And they have a sea turtle program, we got to release baby sea turtles, and at night got to watch the momma turtles come onto the beach and lay their eggs, AMAZING

This time around for the honeymoon we are going a little fancier and staying at Secrets Vallarta Bay, its brand new and beautiful and has great reviews,

100% Stay the Moon Palace or Le Blanc in Mexico. Palace resorts are top of the line. They currently have a promotion where if you stay one week or longer you recieve a $1500 resort credit (it can be applied to spa, casino, excursions, meal upgrades, private dinners, etc). Well worth it.
