My fiance and I are eloping in Big Sur this coming April, we plan to get married in the redwoods and then take photos there and on the beach. I’m a little concerned, the dress that I have is the Marina dress by Michelle Roth, it’s a discontinued style from a few years ago. Originally we were planning a traditional wedding at Wayfarer’s Chapel, so, it would have been appropriate for that venue, but, now that we’re eloping and just bringinig a photographer and officiant, I’m worried that it’ll just look really awful. I love the dress, it’s been my favorite for a long time, I can’t afford to get another one. I guess I’m just looking for reassurance that I won’t look like a complete fool 🙁 Pics I found on the internet are below, mine isn’t quite as fluffy because I didn’t want a crinoline under and most of the photos have one. Do you think it’ll be okay?

Sorry, I think it is a bit much for an elopement

I think a bride can wear whatever they want on their wedding day regardless of their wedding and not look silly. You are never going to be able to wear a dress like that again so I say go ahead and wear it

A wedding is a wedding, elopement or not. I think that would look awesome on the shore in the wind, so don’t only do your pics in the redwoods! Have fun, you only live once!

You are going to look amazing! That dress is great! it’s going to look really beautiful in the redwood forest!

Thank you so much, I appreciate your feedback. Nothing has gone as we originally planned, and I’ve felt really torn about the dress situation.

I think it will be beautiful!! Just because you are eloping does not mean you don’t get the dream dress. 😉

Aside from the fact that you will probably be freezing in that dress, it should be fine. That part of the coastline can be really cold that time of year, I hope you are already familiar with it?

This dress is STUN-fricking-NING. Absolutely wear it for your elopment! You’re still a BRIDE!!

I would think that at the very least in an elopement you could wear whatever you want. 🙂 It’s just going to be you and your Fiance. If it makes you happy, then just wear it.

Thank you so much, everyone. To be honest, I haven’t felt very much like a bride because of all the changes we’ve had to make and I’ve been a little sad about that, you’ve made me feel alot better. 🙂

songbird11: Who are you afraid of looking silly in front of? Not your fiance, or the officiant or photographer. Or the redwoods. And who cares what strangers think? You’ll be fine!

Daisy_Mae: That’s a really good point, Daisy Mae. A close friend who knew about our original wedding plans and that we’re now eloping asked if I as still going to wear Marina, when I told her yes she started laughing, said I’d regret it and that it would look ridiculous in photos 🙁 I’ve felt self conscious ever since.

Uhm, it’s going to be gorgeous! Have you see. How awesome pictures are of formal wear in the middle of trees?! It’s super artsy and stunning. Wear it and love it and then post your amazing pictures to show all the haters

I think you and your photos will be stunning! The dress you wear has nothing to do with the number of witnesss to your vows.
Marina is one of the most romantic gowns out there, and a bit on the bohemian side- perfect for pics in the tree and on the beach!!
