@ohhbitty:  We’re getting married at the Grand Rapids Public Museum.

Why you picked them? Both Fiance and I didn’t want to get married in a banquet hall or anywhere where we’d have to spend thousands of dollars making it look ‘pretty’. We were sold on the fact that there is a giant blue whale skeleton above our heads and that we’d have access to the carousel all night.

Where they are located? Grand Rapids, MI

How far it was from you? Tricky question. I was born in Grand Rapids and my family still lives there. It’s a 10 minute walk from the church we’re using. But it’s 2 hours away from Ann Arbor where Fiance and I currently live.

Obligatory pictures:

@ohhbitty:  Harbourfront Hall, Grand Haven

Why you picked them? They were literally the only hall that would allow us to have people seated at their dinner tables during the ceremony.  I didn’t want some awkward change-over phase when people would need to leave the room.

Also, they were the only ones that didn’t have a people or cost minimum (in the off season).  We only had 100 people and spent $4k with dinner, cake service, etc.

Where they are located? Washington Ave., Grand Haven

How far it was from you? We live in Muskegon so about 15 minutes.

I’m in your area @SimplyEuphoric: Rochester/Auburn Hills area. We got married at my dad’s home near West Branch though. I’ve seen pics from aquaintences’ weddings at Waldenwoods- they look amazing.

we live just outside detroit and will be married at sacred heart in dearborn and our reception will be at silver shores in wyandotte. I included a picture of the outdoor space at silver shores – since our ceremony will be at our church, the outdoor space will be set up with small tables instead of chairs ๐Ÿ™‚

We picked our church because it is the church I grew up in and love (I even went to school at their elementary school!). After our favorite reception venue became booked on our date, we began to search long and hard for “the venue”. We accidentally stumbled upon silver shores and immediately loved it, especially since it was on the water. When it was in budget and available, i was sold!

The church is about 2 minutes from my house and the reception venue is about 20 minutes from the church/my house

@ohhbitty:  from what I understand it went under renovations and new ownership a couple of years ago and are still getting back out there. It is actually directly behind the hospital. They do a ton of business with BASF (in fact we got a free appetizer because FI’s dad works for them). I thinks it’s very simple, yet pretty. My selling points were:

1. On the water

2. Only holds one event at a time

3. Use of the outdoor patio space (I can’t wait to be able to go outside and have a drink by the water!)

any other venue on the water was wayyyy out of our budget. So far they seem very accommodating And the ladies that work in the office (dawn Marie and alice) are super helpful whenever I have a question.

Good luck!!

they do the catering, so you pay for food/drinks and that’s it. I want to say 200 people max for a wedding. Ours is on a Friday and the minimum was 100. They do offer chair covers etc for an additional price. We’re doing the two meat family style and the basic bar. With tax and gratuity it’s coming out to around $50 a person (there was a promotion running when we booked and we got $3 off dinner per person)
