I’m a Michigan bee in Lansing.
Anyone have rec’s for makeup? I need someone not terribly expensive. I had a freelance artist from the local MAC counter lined up, but they ended up being pretty flaky and not answering calls, so I dumped them. Any suggestions?

I’ll be moving to Ann Arbor at the beginning of June! A bee meet up would be a great way for me to feel less alone up there (FI is going to UM for grad school)Anybody have advice for living in Ann Arbor?

@emily, AA is GREAT! it’s a small college town, but there’s TONS to eat, lil shops and boutiques to keep you busy… and is only about 30 min-45 min to the “city” in all areas, detroit, lansing, troy, kzoo, etc.
i’m totally down to schedule a MI BEE meet-up if we can get enough girls out! 🙂

I don’t know if people still celebrate Devil’s Night in Michigan like we used to as kids.. Houses would get TP’d, vandalized etc.. In my neighborhood, kids would grab pumpkins and smash them at houses. So we’d always take in pumpkins the night before halloween to ensure this didn’t happen to our house.
I think we stopped taking in pumpkins the night before like 15 years ago, I think it had a lot to do with the improving economy at the time, kids were getting occupied with technology and stuff like that. Who knows, maybe it’s making a come-back right now? 🙂

i know the night is celebrated elsewhere (halloween eve), but they call it different things like “mischeif night.”
Devil’s night started in detroit back in the 50’s i believe and involved pretty harmless acts such as TP’ing, egging, and so forth. i believe sometime in the late 70’s or 80’s these acts turned much more damaging when arson was being spread all over detroit; people burning adondoned homes and buildings left and right. later, sometime in the 90’s, the officials in detroit (in effort to gain control) turned “devil’s night” into “angel’s night” and had city watches the week prior to halloween and have kept up ever since.
the arson still exists but is a bit more controlled, but really only happens in detroit itself. i’ve never seen any happen in the cities surrounding.
