Not necessarily for work or anything, but just for your “regular” outfits.
I’m 26 and am kind of having an identity crisis with my wardrobe. I look younger than my age so I feel like i can still pull off the “teen” look, (which my FI likes/thinks I look cute in) but at the same time I want to look and dress more maturely because a lot of the women around me my age are. But then again what is the standard mid-twenties look nowadays? I don’t really know. so I typically wear clothes that go back and forth between juniors “cool/cute” and modern/clean/polished “woman” look (lol).
For those of you in this age range, has your taste in clothing changed over the past few years?
What type of clothing do you like to wear?
What do you think is appropriate for our age?
Do you think there is a set age a girl should stop buying clothes from forever 21 and move on to Ann Taylor?
(And as an aside, totally unrelated to wardrobe — are you going to get a “MOM” haircut when the time comes? hahahha)
We don’t wanna look like frumpy middle-aged “moms” of course, but at the same time it is very disconcerting to see people who are trying too hard to wear outfits that are too young for them.

@kmaemu: I absolutely do shop in the juniors’ section. I’m 26, but I am not built for “womens'” clothing. I’ve tried all different brands, styles, cuts, etc. and they just don’t fit.

i still buy jrs dresses and shirts but i dont typically go for the pants.

I will buy occasional trendy pieces from Forever 21. If I’m in a department store then I shop in the contemporary/impulse type of sections (ie: Rag and Bone, Current/Elliott, BCBG, French Connection, etc). My favorite stores are usually Zara, Topshop, or BCBG. I’m 28.
ETA: my work clothes are from The Loft, Banana Republic, J. Crew, and Zara

I’m only 23 but I still shop from juniors and probably will for a long time

Frequently shop in the junior section at Winners, other than that I just shop at wherever I find something I like.

Ughh yes … I do… I am 26 but I have a tiny frame. It’s impossible for me to shop anywhere other than juniors. I can get away with Ann Taylor petites every once in a while though. I recently discovered that a size XL in children’s is too big for me!

Not really. The tops became too short while I was in college due to my busty nature. The pants stopped fitting in my mid-20s when my thighs filled out and I couldn’t get the skinny junior pants over them anymore. I do occasionally buy a pair of larger juniors jeans though because I don’t have much of a butt and the womens jeans sag.

I’m 28 and don’t shop in the Junior’s section anymore. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with it; the junior clothes just don’t fit me as well. My style has definitely changed the last couple years – I don’t like super tight clothes or skirts above the knee anymore.
And the answer is NO to the mom haircut 🙂

I don’t. I’m 5’11” and have hips so juniors clothes are not for me.

(I guess it depends a lot on personality and body type too!)
This is really interesting.
and @s2bmrscook: I totally feel ya… sizing can be a problem!!

Hmmm…I don’t normally. I’m almost 29. I mostly dislike Forever 21 but I am 5’11”-6’0″ and I think they make their clothes for super short people. I tend to shop at Banana Republic, Ann Taylor, Loft, J Crew, Limited, department stores I usually don’t shop in the juniors anymore but I still don’t buy anything that looks middle-aged. I also love shopping at places online where you can get pricier things at a discount. I think I stopped around 24. No to the mom haircut.

@Artificial-Sweetener: +1! I bought a dress from Ann Taylor petites and STILL had to get it altered. I just don’t wanna deal with the extra cost lol.

Im 32 and I still do. Why? Because womens size 5/6 is highwasted and old womanish looking. I truly hate normal women’s clothes.

I’m 26 & shop in the juniors section, still…. I’m not happy about it at all because so much of the stuff is just waay too loud and attention grabbing for my tastes. My problem is that I’m just not built for any other sizes- I’m 5’4″, weigh 110, barely an A-cup, so my body is a juniors body despite the fact that I’m 26 years old. I’ve tried petites, misses, & more and everything in its smallest size is still waay too large for me.
As a results of having ot shop in the Jr’s sections I just don’t shop very often. When I do I look for basics pretty much- standard levi’s jeans, black/tan/plaid work pants, and then pair them with brighter shirts since it’s so hard to find non-party junior tops. I don’t see any end in sight since my mom has been my size for 15+ years and has also never left the Jrs dept. =(
