I’ve been on Yaz for over a year now, and it KILLS my sex drive… does anyone else have this issue with their BC? Whenever I’m off it whether I’m starting a new pack or forgot to pick up my new prescription, I could ravage my husband… but when I take it regularly… I don’t have ANY urge at all… I hate it and not sure there are any other Low Dos RX’s out there that wouldn’t affect me the same way. I’ve suggested going TOTALLY off it for good, but he’s not keen on that idea either.
Tell me I’m not alone here! haha

Birth control pills did the same to me-I just went off them a month ago and feel much better (that way), although I’ve gone thru some crummy side effects while going off. But the sex drive thing is totally normal. I’ve heard some say that certain pills are better than others in this regard, but I never noticed a difference. (I took three different pills over 10 years) All of them had this low sex drive effect on me too! Sucks, I know!

Not alone! When I first started dating my Fiance, I couldn’t keep my hands off him. Then I went on Yaz, and I gained weight and lost any interest in sex. I liked sex when I got into it, but I never wanted it. I went off it in December and we just stuck to condoms (he doesn’t mind). It slowly started to come back, but I dunno. I’m still not feeling it yet. Then in February we decided to stop having sex for religious reasons but I am not planning on going back on Yaz. I definitely suggest using something else!

I’ve been on Yasmin for about 8 years, and my drive is dead, as well. I decided it is time to start experimenting with new pills until I can find one that doesn’t kill it quite as much. So, I just recently went to the doctor to get a new prescription and I’ll be starting Yaz in a week. I’ll test it for a few months and see how it goes, and if it doesn’t work, I’ll move onto the next one. I hear it’s kind of a try and see kind of thing when it comes to the pill, so hopefully I’ll find something that helps.
You’re definitely not alone!

Yup – I absolutely experience this! I’ve tried three different pills, and it’s the same thing with each one, though some are worse than others.
I’ve thought about not taking the pill anymore, but the idea of going back to ridiculously irregular periods just does NOT appeal to me! For now, I’m just dealing with the side effects of the pill. 🙁

Have you tried a pill that has a high dose? I was on a higher dose version in college and while it could’ve been teenage hormones, I had a very high sex drive. Also had a touch of the hormonal crazies though 🙂
Now I’m the same as you — a lower dose, only get really active when I mess up a pack and have huge fluctuations in the hormones.

I have absolutely no drive either. When I go to the gyn next month, I’m going to talk about other options because this isn’t worth it.
@ribbons: My doctor told me that for most people the high dose ones are worse for side effects like decreased sex drive.

@amanda.lynn — I agree with you about irregular periods, that wouldn’t be worth going off it. Mine are pretty normal, even when I’m off the pill, except my PMS is RIDICULOUS…

Why not ask your doctor to call in a new prescription and try it out for three-six months? I’d keep experimenting with different prescriptions until you find one that works for you. There are sooo many options out there, I wouldn’t call it quits just yet.

some pills will do that. I would just talk to your dr about different options cuz there are a lot of low dose pills out there. I liked Allese, and there is ortho-tricyclone low, and low estren, and many others! I’m sure your dr can find a better fit for you.

You should go to your doctor and see what else they can prescribe. You definitely aren’t the only woman going through this so he or she will have other options for you. Good luck!

The pill killed my sex drive too when I was on it, and switching brands never really helped me. If you ever decide to give up on the pill entirely there are a lot of alternative non-hormonal birth control methods out there that have good effectiveness. I hope you find one you like.
