Sorry to hear about your job search struggles. I’ve been there.

I would think most of your guests will be understanding of the situation. I’m sure you know which of your guests will be traveling and maybe approach them more individually? Hotel reservations should be easy enough to move, but as far as plane tickets, it will depend on the airline. I’m assuming you blocked out rooms at a hotel? Maybe you can call the hotel before you tell your guests?

If I was a guest I’d be pretty understanding. I’d probably judge you more for putting on a huge wedding while on unemployement. 😀 Not sure when your original date is, but maybe you could have an engagement party or something the same weekend in the event that people can’t exchange their plane tickets?

Good luck!

I would first check to see if they purchased the hotel and flights at nonrefundable rates. If they haven’t then I can’t imagine that it would be a problem.

Is it possible to have a smaller or less fancy affair?

Otherwise I think it would be nice to offer to pay the non-refundable fees that people will be out.  Not their whole tickets (though that would be nice) but the fees that it will cost people to change to your new date.

I know that you may not want to incur any debt over your wedding, but have you considered taking a cash advance from your bank? The interest rates are considerably lower than what you can get on a credit card, and the repayment terms are usually very reasonable.
