My Fiance is in his last year of medical school and will be starting his residency about a month after we get married. We find out in March where his residency will be, but there’s a good chance that we’ll have to move. We currently live in Los Angeles, but we may have to move to San Francisco, Boston, New York, Chicago, Seattle, or Portland. This means that if we move, we’re probably going to get rid of 90% of our belongings and just get new stuff where we live (most of our stuff is cheap and from Ikea).
I know that it’s customary to register, but it would be shame to register and then have to throw/give away/sell the stuff a month later. So, what would you ladies do?

Don’t register and if anyone asks, have people spread the word by word of mouth that due to the circumstances and the likelihood on moving, the two of you would really appreciate monetary gifts.

Register for stuff you’ll want at the new place, and store it in the meantime at a parent’s house or something. Then, instead of buying all new stuff when you get there, you just transfer it from where you’re storing it, and you’ll be saved having to buy those things new.

I second the idea of registering somewhere and then having the stuff delivered to where you end up living! I’m in a similar situation – I live in one country, my parents and family live in another country (and that’s where I’ll have my shower), and am moving to a third country a month after the wedding!
