Commenting to follow, I am so sorry this is happening to you! By The Way – most counties have free searches, depending on which state you live in, you can look on the recorder’s website to see how she purchased the property (cash, mortgage, or perhaps renting?) Hope that helps. I can help you look if you want, just send me a PM 🙂

yeah… I read this thread and sat there trying to come up with something like

“in the end she’ll be the most hurt every time she sees you laughing, kissing, having parties, having babies etc..”

but honestly?  She’s next level psycho and while yes, that stuff seems like the sort of stuff that would make her jealous… jealousy + crazy psycho = scary as shit.  If she’s willing to BUY A HOUSE just to… to what?  She probably doesn’t even really have a fully formed end game… then what else will she do?

I’m so sorry OP, I have no idea what I’d do in your situation.  I’m so glad you cut out Mother-In-Law… at least that’s one half of batshit crazy that’s out of the picture…

OP – Since you work from home, perhaps you will need to install a sound proof window in your office? I also work from home and outside sounds drive me nuts but I don’t think they are doing it on purpose to bother me, lo.

milsux:  Be careful not to read too much into every little thing she does now. I highly doubt she had any input into where landscapers would start their work. It’ll be easier on your blood pressure if you assume she’s not doing things like that out of malice. Treat her like any other neighbor you don’t care to be friends with; ignore her whenever possible and keep it civil when you have to speak to her about a problem.

SunnierDaysAhead:  It’s possible. We closed in about 3 weeks, and cash deals can close much faster because the loan process is eliminated. Since she paid cash, the middleman (bank) was out which gave her a huge advantage. Sellers prefer cash buyers (They don’t have to worry about buyer financing falling through), so they likely accepted the offer immediately. Also, financing is typically the cause of any closing delay.

OP, I feel for you. What a rotten position to be in! Good thing you work from home though, you can keep an eye on crazytown.

How’d she line up landscapers for the day after she moved!? She moves quickkkk. I agree with others that you can’t assume she’s trying to piss you off with the landscaping. My Father-In-Law owns a lanscaping company, and work generally starts as early as noise ordinances allow to get the most out of the daylight.

I would love to know her reaction if/when you put up a big ol privacy fence. Your poor Darling Husband is probably horrified at the whole situation! At least you have each other to go through it while she’s sitting in that house by herself, stewing in her jealousy.

milsux:  I would suggest not talking to her about the noise level. If she knew it bothered you she would continue. Just document it (take a quick video and save it on an external hard drive or email it to yourself).

What state do you live in? Do you know the laws on staking?

I looked up a quick definition of it

You may be if stalked if someone is:

Repeatedly following or spying on you (moving next door is setp one of this…no?)
Repeatedly calling your home and/or work
Repeatedly sending unwanted e-mails, letters, faxes (you siad she did this before…I hope you kept it)
Leaving unwanted gifts or items for you to find
Vandalizing or damaging your property (watch and be careful of this)
Threatening you or someone close to you
Repeatedly showing up for no legitimate purpose at places where you are (…yup)

this may be more lax or stringent in your state.

This is one of the craziest situations I have ever heard of.

OP- I am so sorry that you are dealing with this. Major kudos to your Darling Husband for cutting ties with your Mother-In-Law. My Fiance had to do that with his mother and it’s not fun.

Hang in there and consider a restraining order if she comes over.

This post seems like a load of bullshit to me. The elaborate details, the total inaccuracy of being able to buy a house that quickly, the suspenseful writing.

Sounds like another garden variety bullshitter to me.
